8.0: Hope you guys like boats

I've mentioned this in a few other threads over the past several months, but I feel now that the reveal is tomorrow, it's worth reiterating and potentially starting some more speculative discussion about it. We need to talk about boats.

From a confirmed internal source I can guarantee you with 100% certainty that 8.0 is going to introduce a lot of water-centric content. We are going to spend a great deal of time on boats. These will not just be for travel: both PvE and PvP combat will take place on your boat (and/or maybe between players on multiple boats?) It is not clear if everyone will always exclusively man their own boat or if parties can share a boat or what, but - trust me, as ridiculous as this may sound - this expac is going to be very heavy on open water content with boats as your primary mode of personal transport.

There is also new engine tech to make the surface of the water more interesting, including physical waves. I do not know if or how this will be relevant to gameplay in any way beyond aesthetics, but I'm sure we'll see soon enough.

I wish I could tell you more, but mostly I'm interested in other peoples' ideas of how this could possibly make for a good expac. My initial reaction upon learning about it was basically, "oh god that sounds terrible," but I've been reassured that there's lots of good stuff here.

I just can't envision a scenario where I'm even remotely happy about boats or anything of the sort. Here's to hoping it's just shitposting on your end, or your friend's end.

To be perfectly clear, I feel the same way. It sounded terrible to me at first, and still basically does. Alas, this is what we're going to get. Brace yourselves.

Well I mean, from my perspective it's confirmed. The source is an actual Blizzard engineer. Hopefully you can comprehend why it might not be in the best interest of anyone involved for me to reveal identities? Seems potentially not like rocket science.

Kind of disappointing that the thread is just an endless barrage of "FAKE NEWS" - I was kind of hoping to get some perspectives on what kind of potential everyone thinks Boat WoW really has.

I'm with you. With the limited information we have it's pretty hard to speculate, though. Both the current vehicle and boat/transport tech in WoW isn't that great. Though I assume this will be based on vehicle tech as transports are pretty awful. With that in mind I hope they do some significant UI/UX overhauls to make boats feel good because if we're going to be doing PvP in these... *wintergrasp flashbacks* Also, really looking forward to better water physics/looks.

Just hundreds of players frantically rowing to shore as flocks of blood thirsty seagulls rend the flesh from their bones.

Yeah, if this comes to pass, I too expect a Vindicaar/Garrison mashup:
- A ship that moors at fixed locations off shore of each relevant zone.
- Shows a different model of said ship to each player based on their upgrade progress and/or unlocked skins.
- Click on a dinghy to teleport to/from ship. Or fly and phase into personal instance.
- Click on mooring locations on a map to sail there via a loading screen.
- Followers -> Crew

And maybe as a bonus:
- Naval broadside combat reskin of pet battle system.

Then it's not a confirmed source. Just because some dude vouches for it, who we don't even know, doesn't make it confirmed in any shape.

Never said leaks are confirmed sources to begin with. However certain people who have leaked info previously and were correct are obviously more up to date and more trusted. How are you guys cannot grasp sic a simple concept? No one is telling you that what they say is 100% true.

Exactly!!! Unless you can actually provide the source (ie link, or some other definitive documentation), which would make it confirmed, nothing is ever confirmed just because you say so. Like I could say I have information from a confirmed internal source that says your internal source is the office weirdo who sniffs glue in the office supply closet and doesn't know anything about the new expansion. Who's right? They're both confirmed.

Actually when someone says they have a confirmed source and then provide information from that source they sort of are trying to pass what they are telling you as 100% true, otherwise it kind of just makes it made up, not from an actual source, and just another garbage leak post.

Well this is the second time someone has mentioned about interactions with the surface of the water, though the other was a brand new account.

This "leak" seems very inconsistent.
You say you have a source, but seem very uncertain as to the scope of this big feature of boats despite having apparently that much information.
Is that due to them not knowing it, which if they could tell you that much seems unlikely as i'd expect such a necessary system to be far better fleshed out.
