CINCINNATI -- Authorities said that three people were injured and 10 people were left homeless after a woman accidentally started a fire while trying to kill bed bugs with rubbing alcohol at a multi-family home in Cincinnati.

WXIX-TV reports it's the second time in two weeks that a fire sparked by attempts to kill bed bugs has caused extensive damage in Cincinnati.

Officials say the fire late Friday heavily damaged a five-unit building and sent three people to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. Their injuries aren't considered life-threatening.

The Red Cross is finding lodging for three teenagers and seven adults. CBS affiliate WKRC reports that the damage is estimated at $250,000.

Eight people were left homeless on Nov. 28 when a 13-year-old boy set fire to an apartment building after dousing a bed bug with alcohol.

    Talk about overkill....

Couldn't they just have bug bombed the place and bought a new mattress?

Bed bugs are resilient to most bug bombs and replacing a mattress never removes all the bed bugs.

Too true. For people who have never experienced bed bugs before, their reputation is well-deserved.

They are nearly impossible to get rid of. They are very small, reproduce at an insane rate, are excellent at hiding, and become resistant to most forms of treatment. Oh, and in addition to biting you all over, they love to leave shit stains on any kind of fabric. They are an absolute fucking nightmare.

Wait, did she start the fire accidentally or on purpose? Like, would rubbing alcohol be enough to kill them?

I'm glad these are not common where I am.

Best way to kill them is to leave your mattress outside in a sub zero temperature for a couple of days. An alternative, if you live in a hot climate and have an access to a large sheet of metal (preferably dark colored to absorb more heat), is to lay it on the ground under direct sunlight, wait for it to become extremely hot, then put your mattress oon top and leave it there for the rest of the day, absorbing all the heat it can get. Bed bugs do not survive temperatures above 45C. If you manage to heat your mattress to above 50-55C, all of them would die in a matter of minutes.
Of course, dealing with general room infestation is more difficult. If you live in cold regions you could just freeze an infected room (or go on freezing one after another over a course of several days). For hot climates... good luck.

Homemade CO2 traps, a ring of greased sellotape half way up and around the bed base, frequent washing of bed clothes in hot water, daily inspection of the bed and mattress linings, spraying all evidence of them with cleaning spray eventually got rid of my infestation which I swear was brought in by tenants moving in next door. Also keep feet off the floor while at the computer and sprinkle lines of cheap cinnamon powder in places they have to walk over to get to you it will dry them out.

eggs 6 to 17 days to hatch
    adult in 37 days
adults can survive 5 months without food

So if you move out for 6 months they should all die. Or if you're keeping them from feeding some other way. I don't know if they feed on pets or mice.

Yah but they can eat each other. Unless bed bug religion prohibits cannibalism.
TO FIX WOW:1. smaller server sizes & server-only LFG awarding satchels, so elite players help others. 2. "helper builds" with loom powers - talent trees so elite players cast buffs on low level players XP gain, HP/mana, regen, damage, etc. 3. "helper ilvl" scoring how much you help others. 4. observer games like in SC to watch/chat (like twitch but with MORE DETAILS & inside the wow UI) 5. guild leagues to compete with rival guilds for progression (with observer mode).6. jackpot world mobs.

bug bombs are not effective against bed bugs. They're resilient and also they will often just hide somewhere until the poison dissipates. Same as for stink bugs.
