Jones ' victory very much gives Democrats a chance of taking back the Senate next year. I'm expecting at least a 50 seat gain in the house at this point.

My only caution is that there is just under a year before the 2018 elections, and that's a long time in political terms. People are starting to go numb to Trump's shenanigans and if they put this tax bill in place the longer term ramifications won't be felt by then so it could pull support back to the GOP.
There is a whole heck of a lot that can happen to swing things either direction, from more progress on the Mueller front, to the GOP somehow getting Trump under control, to a disaster or war happening that causes a surge in support for the party in power.
However, all things being equal and nothing major happening -- it's OBVIOUS the GOP should be extremely worried about the next two election cycles.
Pretty much this.
While I do want to keep the "hype" train up, so to speak, the time difference can allow anything to happen. I mean, shit, that California Congresswoman came out and said the rumor is Dumbass Fukwit Dump is going to announce Muller's firing the day before Christmas. That's less than a week away and that would change the map entirely.
I mean, what was going on this time last year involving Dumbass Dump without having to look it up first? Does anybody remember just off the top of their head - because that's what's going to be most important when the voting comes, what is the current topic at that moment. Morally it SHOULD involve estimating the sum total of job performance, but too many of my fellow Americans are fickle and don't seem to think beyond their next meal. So, if we're in the middle of some wag-the-dog war or somesuch nonsense.
The only things keeping the GOP afloat are gerrymandering (I know it was not relevant in this election) and voter suppression.
What are you talking about? His policy platform was basically "hey, what if we did things that are already working in other countries?" As much as people like to scream about it, there was nothing 'radical' about his policies. Trump, on the other hand, ran on Economic Impossibilism: anyone with a brain could've figured out that he wasn't going to get all of those manufacturing and coal jobs back- at least not in any significant numbers. I think both parties went a little crazy on trade, but overall, comparing the two platforms as "almost as stupid" is ridiculous. One was based on examples from things that other developed nations are doing well (and better than we are). The other was a narcissistic fever dream.

Moore was uniquely horrific. Don't expect us to see any more deep red states flipping like Alabama.
But 20 point swings do seem to be happening and that is going to flip the house, and could flip the senate which I something I didn't think I could say before Alabama.
I agree that one shouldn't read too much into this particular race, but the average of all the elections that have happened since November has been a double-digit swing toward the Democrats. No, it won't paint the entire nation blue, but the GoP should definitely be worried.

Not sure what you are talking about but historically speaking the party in power tends to lose the next election cycle, that said democrats are mathematically at a disadvantage. It really depends on what kind of candidates are put in each state but aside from Trump republicans will have to defend this tax cut and unpopular decisions like net neutrality, destruction of national monuments and health care.
