This is far more likely to be part of the requirements than actually doing 100% of all the things on each faction. The level-cap quest chains where you establish a war-camp or base in enemy territory. Followed by a series of WQs or Loremaster-type explorations where you have to poke around the entire zone to complete it.

You know I kinda wish Blizz would take a leaf from FFXIV for this expansion. Have a pathfinder for each continent individually.

Or have pathfinder for an expansion's areas
    Like they did.

Faction: Pretty much Horde only, I have a single max level alliance toon that I created for the sole purpose of seeing the other side of the story.
Do you spend 90+% time on 1 toon: No
How many alts: 6-7, but most are barely played. I usually have a main and then 1 or 2 primary alts.
How many raiding alts: Currently none as raiding has winded down a lot with Legion coming to an end. I'll usually have 1 or 2 alts in heroic gear (I do Mythic on my main).

It's clearly a bug, Blizzard has no reason to force people to play both sides, especially in an expansion that is meant to be polarizing and swell faction pride. If it's not it's the dumbest idea they've had in quite some time.

    Faction: Hord
Do you spend 90%+ of your time on one toon? No ( at the current stage of the expansion(
    How Many Alts: 17
How Many raiding Alts (heroic or above): 5

I play Hord almost exclusively, however I don't mind this at all.

    Right.

From my perspective they've shot themselves in the foot by adding more grind to the game and adding too much gear inflation.

I think their idea is that the gear inflation keeps people playing because they need to keep up with everyone else by getting enough titanforged or whatever, but it's backfired.

In practice, gear inflation means that, if you're a pugger like me, the expectation is that you outgear heroic raids before you step foot inside them. Every pug group is just full of overgeared players muscling through the content without really doing the mechanics all that well. It's too easy, and once you actually get "geared" (which I would define as overgeared) and actually step into the raid you clear things very quickly. So my favorite part of the game is now a pretty trivial part of the overall playtime (I can't play mythic, too much time commitment). This wasn't true back in the day. In Cata, the best possible ilvl you could get pre raid was 346 (excluding BOEs/crafted gear), and the raid dropped 359. So there wasn't the huge difference in item level screwing with everything like there is now. Now you walk into the raid at 960, it's tuned for 945s, and you laugh at the gear checks and once you are mediocre at mechanics the whole thing's a breeze.

To offset that problem, they've added other grinds. It's a pain in the ass to get geared, you have to run a shitton of nonsense stuff to get legendaries, you need to get 75 levels AP, etc. And periodically you have to do crappy achieves so you can fly (and in Legion they made flying irrelevant like 3 months later anyway).

These are all the changes you make when your focus is on keeping people busy, not making sure the game is still fun.

And for me, it's just not fun anymore. The raiding scene is ruined unless you raid mythic and you spend all your other time (other than m+ which was great but got stale - they need to release dungeons in tiers next xp) doing grinds. Legion is the first expansion I haven't changed mains. In every past expansion I've had multiple geared alts by the end of the first tier, but I just couldn't bring myself to do the AP grind again in Legion (and also, there was still a lot of grind left on my main at that point). I think I got 1 alt to 110 and just gave up.

    Faction: Alliance mostly
Do you spend 90%+ of your time on one toon? No. I do, however, do nearly all my progression raiding on 1 toon.
How Many Toons: 12 max level (8 Alliance, 4 Horde)
How Many raiding Toons (heroic or above): 1

I would have no problem with it requiring you to play both the Alliance and Horde story lines.

That would be an interesting idea and I think it could work.

With the way this alpha/beta has unfolded who knows at this point lol. I will say though that if this is indeed true this isn't going to increase MAUs by any stretch as it will do the opposite. o.O

Plus, more taco bell for me! \o/
