would blizzard scrap azerite gear?

Has blizzard ever scrapped a system that they have put in place mid expansion? not to my knowledge.

I feel like even though the vast amount of the community hates the system they will not admit their system failure and will force us to wait til the next expansion goes live rather than just saying "ok, this was a test for 1 tier and now its over".

There is absolutely no way it will be scrapped. The best we can get is having the Azerite skills tuned better, with some of the skills removed, and perhaps have the requirements lowered. Tuning is happening, that's for sure, or at least that's what Blizzard has told.

Oh, and also easier access to higher level Azerite gear, from WQ's that have their ilvl scaling for the rewards increased (for the Azerite gear).

They won't. The whole expansion is built around it and they don't have the manpower to crank out new content and redo half the game mid-expansion, let alone test it. Blizzard is also fucking scared of losing face, as could be seen in Lore's recent posts where he skirted the issue without stating the obvious. They know the system is a failure and does not reach the stated goals, but they would never say that out loud, maybe 1 or 2 expansions down the line.

Yeah, there is way too much tied into the gear, you can't just scrap that. The whole theme of the expansion is the power of Azerite. How would that even work if we don't use Azerite? Neh, the gear is fine, and will get even better, people should just stop jumping on to the bandwagon.

Half the storyline and a huge part of gear progression is tied into the Azerite system, we’re stuck with it until we inevitably give away or lose the Heart of Azeroth in the pre-patch of the next expansion.o

I think azerite can be decent, depends on how interesting the spec specific skills are and how powerful they can make them. I'm just sad that it seems like this will mean we can't get cool looking sets per class instead of per armor type.

Pretty much this. It's what they had to do in Legion with AP and legendaries as well, although in the case of legendaries it stayed shit until prepatch.

There is no chance that they'll remove Azerite gear. The entire expansion was built around it.

As mentioned, the best they can do is improve the current system, which they appear to be trying to do. Soon we'll have more sources of Azerite and apparently another outer ring for spec-specific traits? So we'll see how that works and what they continue to do.

Did you start playing in Legion ? They’ll probably do worse next expac as long as Ion is designing the game this way - even though he’s probably tied to this kind of design (time spent > enjoyment) thanks to the shareholders.

Artifact knowledge was heavily nerfed in v7.2 and (almost) removed in v7.4..
It was still in game, but changed to something passive..

By expansion's end, the power from Azerite gear will vanish just like Artifact traits from Legion. Then we'll be left with lobotomized gear.
