Why did they even make it physical item instead of just account unlock?
Much ado about nothing.
Seriously some people are truly addicted to drama for nothing over here. I did the angler quests it took forever..
But you know what, I'm more than happy to finally be able to use another mount to do that because I have the damned strider and I've seen it for way too long.
I am suspecting people don't know about the leatherworking item currently in the game that lets anyone water walk mounted, because that's exactly the same thing, but account wide. You have no idea how much the equipment will cost, and you will have it for free.. and yet you already complain about it.
Seriously, Blizzard could have simply released another waterwaling mount easily obtainable, and you would still be crying about it? the blue post is right, you grinded it, so did I, you had waterwalking for 6 years in exclusivity.. did you really think they would never update that system to make the mount obsolete?
Seriously?
because this is boosting both token sales (u need ton of gold to respec constantly) and MAU (you need to waste shitton of time traveling to merchants on all toons)
same like with portals removal - shit excuses just to boost MAU

yay for having to log in 46 times -_- such an amazing gaming experience -_-
there is still time - we should force them into making this shit maybe more expensive but make it account wide unlocks and swaping it for free.
Do I need rep for buying that item? Only Anglers will sell it? Not other factions? I think I saw somewhere that there will be more sellers.

I have both Water Striders - "Horde" and "Alliance" variants. I have them on my action bars, yeah. But I've used them 2-3 times may be. Why? Who cares about them? We will have FLYING!!!
I don't care about Wow 11.0, if it's not solo-MMO. No half-measures - just perfect xpack.
To people who think everyone is whining about mount equipment because their strider won't be the only mount with waterwalking .....
To people whining about mount equipment because their strider won't be the only mount with waterwalking .....
To people who think waterwalking won't be a thing with FLYING .....
You make me facepalm so hard that the sound reverberates throughout the universe.
First of all, the main issue with removing waterwalking from the strider is that you won't be able to create a new alt and immediately use waterwalking on an alt. You will have to go on your MAIN character to Krasarang Wilds and buy it each time you decide to create a new alt. It's not the end of the world, but a major inconvenience.
Second issue is that you'll have to buy it each time you decide to swap mount equipment for some time and then go back to waterwalking. Gold goes down the drain. I already spend tons of gold buying big bags for new alts.
Third issue is that waterwalking is removed from the strider, but herbpicking of the golems is not. Just make the bloody Strider have its waterwalking and not benefit from mount equipment. SIMPLE.
And lastly - flying won't help you skip water pools in dungeons such as Tol Dagor. And it won't even work on characters below 60.

Looking for a working online signature generator .....
i have literally zero problems if that mount is offered for free now, in fact imo old items should be easy to acquire, not mummified, and that include even achievements and 'one time events' and so on
i miss wrath launch event and wish it return
The beginning of wisdom is the statement 'I do not know.' The person who cannot make that statement is one who will never learn anything. And I have prided myself on my ability to learn
Thrall

Nothing is getting taken away though. Like at all.

So people can use a mount they want, not an ugly strider. Which has been something people have asked for years. how is it this hard to understand?
OP you should know better than coming to MMO champion expecting to get legitimate answers. You're just gonna get the contrarians coming out and telling you why youre stupid or entitled for asking the question.
Pornhub has a pretty good comments section though. Post this under the latest Janice Griffith video and you'll get about 20 responses today that are on topic.
I played WoD for about 6 months and Legion for about 3 months.

When you grind something, like Exalted Angler's Rep, to earn a mount with water walking. Then the features of that mount are then given to other mounts WITHOUT having to grind that rep... they take away something. They trivialize the reward, and the efforts of those who did it.
Imagine if 8.2 made "The Insane" title purchasable for 40 gold?
What they have done is REMOVED content since now no one will have to grind exalted (Friendly now I guess?) to get water walking. They've also made it cost 40 gold per mount.
And supposedly there will be a craftable item that can be used instead of the rep item.
And all in all... all mounts should NOT be able to walk on water. That's what was unique about water striders. I know, I know... "But everyone was FORCED to use water striders".
Really? Because I didn't. Only when I was around water did I use them... I didn;t even particularly LIKE them.
No. A better way to address this would have been to add NEW water walking mounts each expansion.. for mount collectors, for people who want to have more choice when running around a water heavy zone.
But no... we'll make ALL mounts capable of water walking... which boringly ALL will have to have the water walking equipment. Choice down the drain. And now suddenly you have completely trivialized water... Might as well remove it and fill in all the lakes and rivers with dirt.
I'm sure we'll see these abilities removed from Shaman and DKs soon... because well, let's prune it all you know.
This game has become so "watered down" (pun intended) with homogenization that it's just a boring grey blob of repetitive queue times.
Do you really think calling other people "whiny, special snowflakes" (don't have to guess how YOU vote) is any less of an example of "entitled" behavior? Love how you feel "entitled" to judge your opinions above theirs, as if your single, unproductive (and utterly lacking in empathy) OPINION is magically fact (cuz "you said so") and outweighs everyone else's combined.
First off, not everyone has had the mount for 6 years. Imagine spending a lot of time on this old, tedious, out of the way content, in lieu of other, more enjoyable things, and - within days or weeks - finding out the only reason you did it is going away. But hey, now you get a "discount" for something you have to buy for every. single. alt. so you can enjoy this feature again...which will take the place of some OTHER, NEW feature you otherwise COULD have enjoyed (not getting dazed, reduced fall damage). Unless you're a Shaman of DK (the only people seeming to benefit from this change), many or most people will wind up buying the water walking equipment for all their toons. Gee, what an upgrade vs. just switching to a mount you already had, that already did this - and did this FOR FREE once it had been tediously earned.
I've had the Azure Water Strider since MoP, but I can totally relate to the frustrations of people that recently unlocked it. I spent 50k gold on the Lightforged Augment rune, but only got to use it for a few months (I'd had surgery and been too ill to play WoW much of Legion) before they killed it for players higher than level 119. I also did RaF a number of times (recruiting myself) back in BC/Wrath, paying all that money to essentually "buy" myself the mount back when they were "per character," so I could still enjoy them as I was forced to change mains for the good of the raid multiple times. When mounts went account wide, was I given a token for each effectively lost "reward" so I could get one of the new pets or something? Nope. I basically lost the reward x 4 or so.
There was easy solution to the AWS problem. People that already had the Azure Waterstrider should be able to have water walking AT LEAST on that mount (if not all of them) in addition to something to put in the mount equipment slot. Anyone who didn't already have it should fall to the new system. The 'Grandfather Clause' is the right way to introduce a massive change. In fact, Blizzard did it (albeit without enough notice) when they made changes to RaF. If you were in the middle of it, you got to experience the old, actually worth it RaF. Everyone else going forward got the new, pointless version.
It was a completely reasonable way to have handled this controversy (as in, there would be no controversy), instead of ticking off an already unhappy player base - but Blizz oddly lacks care for player happiness. Sometimes I think they do crap like this just to tick us off (with Ion, it totally wouldn't surprise me).
If Blizzard constantly takes hard earned things and removes them or nerfs them into the ground (and before you stupidly try to challenge me about armor, OBVIOUSLY that doesn't count - it doesn't get nerfed, you just get stronger gear that replaces it), why bother to do ANYTHING?
A huge part of why people play MMOs is because you accumulate things over time, which adds enjoyment over time, and leaves you with something to show for your time (albeit virtually - although accounts can be worth a lot of RL money thanks to this accumulation). Blizz has shown with increasing frequency that they are more than happy to randomly take shit away from you that you worked hard for. Frankly, there are a lot more entertaining games out there, but they're one and done. There are other MMOs, but you have to start from scratch. It's why a LOT of us still play this game through content droughts or just plain shitty content (like BFA).
That said, as Blizz increasingly takes away and/or nerfs items that cost a lot in time or gold (or effectively real money, as was the case with my RaF rewards), they also erode that advantage. More and more, we're just left with a game that feels increasingly less entertaining or rewarding - especially as their idea of "content" broadens to things like removing portals and delaying flying (to the point of it not being worth attaining) to increase MAU without their having to actually put any effort into it.
