Once. It was super easy and if you fail more than twice you really don't deserve to be a driver.

Failed my L once (that's a theory test on the computer) then passed it the second time.
Failed N once since I hit the curb. Passed my N the second time.
Passed my full license first try.

Imo the hardest test is the N, where they make you parallel park. I have no issues with left or right turns, shoulder checks, 3 point turns or keeping my speed at a steady pace. My only issue was parallel parking (which wasn't really a big deal either when I practiced for it)

I've been driving for around 13 years now so my times were different.
The L test took around 15-20 mins
The N took 20-30 and the full license was around 30-40.

Sounds like things are much more strict in Canada. I passed mine at 16, first try. Me and a friend of mine took it the same day. I went before him. I watched him after and he did everything perfectly. Thing is, you have to park your car across the street after the exam. There is Stop sign right before you cross and he went right through, FAIL. Lol He had to go back and do it again.

So in Canada to get your license you go in at 16 and do an exam, then wait 1 year and do 1 more exam and then 2 years after that you do your third.

The first is just writing.
2nd is driving for like 35 mins.
3rd one is driving for like 1 1/2 hours.

I'm at the 2nd one, I have failed it 2 times, and my third attempt is tomorrow.
I drive amazingly, not a single screw up on any points... except shoulder checking.
The first time I went in to do the 2nd exam I got 3 points off on shoulder checks only. Same thing the second time. Do I have to yell it out or something? I don't do it all the time because I know there ain't nobody there, but even so they take points off. Shiiit.

Tip? If you are getting points off on something, then practice that something over and over again until it becomes a habit.

Long waiting times in Ireland and after I booked it I got busy at work. I did 2 hours of driving in the 6 months leading up.... It actually went ok compared to how awful it could have gone think the guy felt sorry for me lol. Only real regret was not taking the test way earlier when I was actually practiced.

We typically do the parking parts of the test in a parking lot. The actual driving is all on public roads.

I passed both the written and driving portions on my first try. I had no marks against me on the driving portion and on the written the only thing I missed was a question regarding where your hands should be at on the wheel. I only missed that portion because the driver's ed class I had taken was using outdated material and still said to use 10 and 2 while because of airbags the correct answer had changed to 9 and 3. Oddly when I went to renew I kind of failed. They do a depth perception test on you which is impossible for me to do because I am blind in one eye. The person behind the counter stated I would need a form filled out by my doctor. I got the form but when I went back I was told that I did not need the form and that I should have just had a small restriction placed on my license, that I could not drive any car without a passenger side mirror, which was silly because any car made in the last 20 years had to have one anyways.

I think BMV should or NTSB should make a law requiring that anyone over 60 have their eyes checked every license renewal 4 year period. Also, The driving test is SUPER EASY for basic license. I mean, anyone with a half a brain could pass it. Frankly, it should be harder, it be required to take a drivers course for driving, testing, and learning, and be required to parallel park, do that veer left and veer right then both. Be required to effectively pass a drivers examination without missing more than 2 points or 2 marks of bad driving. which means, turn signals, seat belts, STOPPING AT RED SIGNS, LIGHTS, AND PREPARING TO STOP WHEN THE LIGHT IS YELLOW.

If you fail to stop or when the light is yellow, instant failure of the test.

I agree with you on the eyesight portion, but the parallel parking I disagree with. It is an invaluable skill in major cities, but is useless to those who live in rural areas. It would be like requiring someone who lives in Arizona to test on what to do if a Moose is standing in the road (stop, turn off the car, and just wait, do not flash lights or honk, they will charge your car and win).

I didn't do it the first time because of very lame mistake.

Since I had some time left, I decided to check my answers. To explain what happend, we had two papers, one was with all the questions and I was supposed to mark my answers into the other. I was allowed to correct only once. Stupid me, I skipped a question for some reason and before I noticed it, I wrongly 'corrected' 3 questions which meant I didn't pass as I was allowed to make only 2 mistakes. When I told it to police officer, he laughed, checked the answers and told me to come next month.

The driving test was easy though.

Passed both the permit and driving test first try. On the permit test I got a perfect 100% and on the driving test I guess I did so well that the instructor stopped me before we could finish the whole test. Said I did well enough that he doesn't need to see anymore. Was pretty proud of myself.

I passed the written portion and the practical on the first go, though listening to my driver's ed instructor while I was doing that bit for my learner's permit would've made you think I was a danger to myself and society at large. Guy was a bit of an asshole though.

Never really had any problems, though I avoid parallel parking at all costs. Thankfully, Southerners as a species can't parallel park (at least not North Carolinians), so we've designed our infrastructure around not having to do it.

My first time, I aced the written, but I failed the driving portion literally on the turn back into the lot at the end of the test. The turn was at a lighted intersection, and the light turned yellow as I approached, so I slowed down but proceeded around the corner. The instructor insisted that the yellow meant I must come to a complete stop before doing my turn, and that it constituted a major traffic violation and an instant fail even though I had a perfect record up to that final turn. I still don't know if what he said is accurate, and I thought he was kind of a dick for it, but I just retook the test 48 hours later and passed, so whatevs.
