I bought the game blindly, never played a FF game and 10+ years of WoW.... Awesome!

After 10 years of WoW and never picking up a single FF game, a guildie of mine invited me to try out FF14 online. After fiddling around with SWtoR, BDO and Tera, I was reluctant to invest myself in yet another MMO.

Why should this be any different? I asked myself.

Still, im in a decent position in my life where I can pay the money for a video game and just shelve it if I dont like it. I dont like the restrictions of TRIALS or free to play blocks where you cant get the entire experience.

I bought FF14 complete edition and I jumped in.

Its been 3 days now and I am in heaven. I cannot get enough of this game and I think its mainly going to come down to storyline and community. Everyone is optimistic and generally happy. I have bounced around on 4 different servers over the past decade and over time, the disdain from WoW just creeps in. Is it justified? Probably. But its not something I want to hear about on the daily.

Fast forward to recently and Final Fantasy is just perfect. I have no regrets spending the money and I wish I would have done so a long time ago, when I heard this game was coming out and I ASSumed it was destined to fail.

This is just a positive review of someone that picked this up in 2019 and I encourage others to jump in and get that feeling of a new, unexplored world.

    Thanks for your time.

I had similar feelings hopping between wow and ff14. At times, one feels more fun to play than the other depending on the content and QOL updates. For example, the AAR MSQ is getting some long overdue attention in a future update. That'll be big for me trying to convince friends to pay.

I'll never be done with wow but as I've seen ff14 grow into the game it is today, it's hard to not want to be apart of that.

I play gw2 in between subs when I'm feeling a mmorpg itch but I don't want to spend the cash.

Classic gas been calling me but I have personal reservations about playing it that I'm finding difficult to overcome.

To be fair, when thegame first came out it *DID* fail, so much so that they decided not to charge a subscription fee until they could make it good. And that took literally ending the world, shutting down the game, and spending a year completely reworking it before re-releasing it.

I'm also a 15yr WoW'er myself and started the trial game last week. Overall it's pretty awesome and a much needed breath of fresh gaming air. Granted FF 14 doesnt have global chat and people don't talk much, but the game has a lot more going on than WoW.
I'm going to unsub wow for awhile and sub up for a few months as well.

    It's an okay game.

The story is phenomenal, but the gameplay is garbage in many areas. Combat feels wonky, there are weird combat delays (slide casting) and immersion-shattering invisible walls. Loading screens are also a huge bummer.

It's a great game if you aren't looking for endgame pve or any pvp

Yeah, FF14 is really good. You have so much content ahead of you, there's too much to look forward to.

Combat is fine, and the gcd is just a stylistic choice, one that WoW half incorporated, ironically enough.

I think he means jobs skateboarding around due to animations not having any kind of overlap

Sums it up pretty well. Just unsubbed after two (?) months of playing Shadowbringers. It's a great game, but I inevitably reach a point every time where mindlessly spamming the two or three same dungeons for tomestones just doesn't do it anymore for me. I have one job that is decently equipped now, so I have to wait for the next big content update.
Levelling all DoH/DoL gets old really fast and the raid is ok til you get your weapon, but that's just it.
Enjoy the time levelling through the MSQ though, has some great moments. Storytelling is definitely light years ahead of WoW.

Glad to read you found another MMO to play. FFXIV had some great in-game events and the crafting is some of the best I've ever had a chance to play. Sadly I only played base game earlier this year and got every role, combat and craft/gather, to 50. I didn't find myself enjoying the combat and my MMO play style has been playing mainly AH/economy most time. So being limited to 2 retainers, which then means limited auctions, I found myself restricted. XIV does give you the option to get more retainers, but you have to pay a monthly fee to keep them up and running. That was really my only big issue with XIV. I understand retainers are more than auctions, as they have the added benefit of going on expeditions and also inventory space. I just didn't like that they limited me on my character when it came to how many auctions I could put up. It's one thing if it was across the board, as in everyone can only have 2 retainers, but it just didn't rub me the right way that you could be given up to 8 more if you played a monthly fee. I could post more on an alt, but I can't mail to my own character. So a roundabout way of posting more would be to trade your auctions to another player and have them trade them to your alt to post.

In fairness Yoshi-P has said that because they do a story-based game they expect a lot of influx/unsub players and that's totally fine with them. They get a gigantic, massive, influx when a new expansion or patch comes out, and then the next month expect it to drop when people finish the content. And they know that and plan around it.

Actually I don't see this as a negative thing. I really enjoy getting back to FFXIV from time to time and I know everytime I unsub that I will return at one point.

Yeah I'm totally fine with it, I think a lot of people inherently find it bad because WoW has so trained the masses to expect a constant influx of things to do and now we've seen the final endgame of that with the entire game built around MAUs and people hating it.

    That is a ridiculous claim.

It does have end-game pve. It gets raids more often than wow does, and it has tons more content to do outside of that end-game content to do.

    Again.

Peeps look at this comment. 2 MONTHS! That's how long it took for these people to get tired of end-game. There is a new patch coming soon with a new raid. About to hit in a month or so.
But please, wich mmo drops new raids every 2 months? These people are impossible to please.

Also, why are you running the same dungeons? There's this thing called random roulette wich has every 50+ dungeon.

So, let me translate these posts:

If all you care about is endgame and nothing else, you will limit yourself to only have updates every 3 months. In the meanwhile you ignore everything else the game has and pretend to be bored.

AKA this is evidence of people not breaking free from their WoW mindset. Maybe you want an AP grind and some titanforging with that? I bet you do.

Meanwhile..you have players in wow that get sick of end game after what..2-3 weeks of beating the newest raid on heroic or mythic, then take a break and do nothing but complain about what's wrong..etc
I only do the same dungeons when i want gear upgrades. ~

to be fair... "raids" in ff14 are generally 1-4 bosses with no extremely little to no trash, generally a single room, though sometimes there are two to three. its essentially ToC, but its ALWAYS essentially ToC.

i play both ff14 and wow, they both have their ups and downs. but to praise ff14 because it releases raids so often - which honestly isnt true, you generally get 12 "raids" (read single bosses, 3 releases, 4 at a time) and 7-9ish trials (also read single bosses, including leveling ones) per expansion - is just silly. while i dont mind not having trash, ToC got so much shit for that model that blizzard never wanted to do it again. it isnt difficult to make a single room with a boss in it, so they can be brought out more often.

they do tend to add 3-4 full length dungeons per expansion, not including the ones on release, though.

however, if you were only referring to alliance raids (24 mans, trash, bosses, etc.)... they still arent released more often than wow raids. alliance raids are the raids that you would consider to be raids in wow, except essentially LFR style where you queue up with randoms and its a giant pushover with no harder difficulties, so the balancing is fairly easy. there are generally 3 of these per expansion.

its a decent amount of content sure, but you have to also consider balancing. the normal "raids" have to be balanced, but they are single boss fights with nothing else in the area. the alliance raids need virtually no tuning, by comparison.

that said, most of my time is spent afking in ff14 these days, rather than afking in wow. i like my houses.

Welcome to the game. I played it at 1.0 launch and really didn't like it compared to WoW. Then I decided to check it out again 6 months ago and love it. I've stopped playing WoW completely now and this has been my sole MMO for 4 months or so. There is just a ton of stuff to do in the game.

Yeah, but from what I've heard those raids are pretty much to the tune of Trial of the Crusader. 1-4 bosses with next to no trash in one room.
