Humans can both stop and control climate change as technology gets more efficient. By improving on the best methods of Carbon sequestration and doubling their efficiency a couple times. Then take the (inflation adjusted)cost of electricity and cut it in half a couple times. The economies of scales makes it very tractable. The only problem is that environmentalists want knee-jerk NOW solutions as opposed to putting in the hard work over the next century. As if a reduction-based policy is going to save some sacred rhino species. Not only will a Western reductionist strategy not halt CC but it's self defeating from a democracy perspective since it's based on ignoring economic prosperity metrics such as growth.

A prime example of a strawman. Since when has she argued for communism? This is just lumping stuff you don't agree with together to make it look weaker, despite it not being part of the same cause at all. This is also really funny because it's just everything right-wingers seem to rail against online. Venezuela, communism, Sweden, and environmentalism.

Meh, stale mate, beside you lot decide what science to listen to next, right now you're ignoring Biology.
Who is ignoring biology and what does that even have to do with the current discussion?

I don't post that often, and when I do it's often in bursts. I always lurk though.

Because we CAN do that? We could change it already, we can also make sure to at minimum slow down the change.

You don't say! Next thing you'll tell me people write speeches before they give them and practice in front of mirrors to ensure their delivery has the greatest effect! Oh my god, she might also be being put through public speaking classes!

This is why right wing memes are stupid. Greta Thunberg has absolutely nothing to do with communism. Not a damn thing. And fuck all does Venezuela's socialism have to do with climate change?

But then, this gets posted on Facebook and every Karen takes it for face value and every Chad passes it around on internet forums like it's truth.

A kid being "fed" the truth? Yeah, that's not something people usually get upset about.

Oh, I'm sorry. You're one of those "herp derp, da climate be always changin' and humans have nuttin' to do wit it" people, aren't you?

I don't see anything wrong with what she's doing. She's not trying to offer her own imaginary solutions, she's just trying to get people to start fucking doing something. That's fine by me.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I support her though. It's more of a "good for her".

I'd have way more respect for everyone saying it's ridiculous to listen to a child on the subject, if they didn't also say the same thing about the experts in the field.

That's really the core of this.

They're not looking for someone to listen to. They're just looking for the easiest excuse to not listen to someone they disagree with. With Thunberg, that's gonna be either "she's a kid" or "she has aspergers". That way, they never have to listen to her long enough to understand what she's saying, to attack her argument on its merits (or lack thereof).

They do the exact same thing with the experts, of course, though they usually have to dig a tiny bit deeper to find their excuse.

Autism is not a mental illness.

There, consider yourself educated. You clearly lack in that department.
The mental issues she did have as a result of her fears were massively improved upon as she began taking action. As of now, she's more lucid and aware than you and the rest of her haters.

And I don't worship her as such, but I do love that she riles people such as yourself up.

    Exactly.

It's picture perfect ad hominem, yet the people involved pride themselves on being "the logical ones".
The delusion has to be strong in those people I guess, seeing as how they not only ignore this 16-year old, but everything said by experts and scientists as well unless it vibes with their own feels.

Excellent point. "she's a mentally ill autistic girl" is a complete failure to understand what's wrong with her speeches. By far the worst thing is the pseudo-scientific predictions of doom and extinction. Whether such claims comes from a little girl who doesn't have a highschool diploma or from an adult with a PhD doesn't matter at all. The person and their qualification has no bearing on the validity of a claim to knowledge.

Yeah, fuck her for wanting to ensure the world she inherits has clean air, clean water, plenty of arable land for farming, without the chaos of mass migration or resource loss . . .

You realize clean air, water, and agriculture aren't going away? If anything they're easier to manage than ever before thanks to modern technology.

Yeah, I'm not even sure what the hell the denialists conjure up as the boogey man here, Greta isn't exactly spreading anything but a call to action and for the people in power to take the future of coming generations seriously...

Climate change denialists will go down in history as the bad guys, whether we turn things around or not. Mark my words.

Nah that's kind of like saying the heliocentrism deniers of the past will go down as the "bad guys" because it turns out the Earth orbits the sun. Overtime people gain more epistemic humility, which is to say that positions that may have been considered "wicked" in times past are caused by people's inability to model nature in an accurate way. Similarly the people in 2500 may think eating meat from a slaughtered animal is barbaric, but they won't necessarily think that 2019 meat eaters are "bad guys" because presumably they'll be able to understand historical context.

At the rate of Trump changing policies like raising emission standards on cars, removing regulations that stop coal companies from dumping in waterways, and removing regulations that ban certain pesticides that cause cancer, then yeah, they are going away. You would know this if you did even a TINY BIT of research instead of attacking a 16 year old girl that might be smarter than the people attacking her.

Do you have any proof that clean air, water, and agriculture is going away overall?

So, you think all of those that I listed, doesn't have any adverse effects? Or so, because they aren't all gone, means we are fine? This is your tipping point. Jesus I have seen ridiculous shit from you before, but this is probably the most ignorant statement I have seen from you in a while.

I'm saying if you believe that clean air, water, and food/agriculture is going away you have a responsibility to prove it. Referring to some magical tipping point that can't be scientifically verified or falsified has zero value.

Raising emission standards, and removing regulations are all I need.
