Am I the only one who loved D3's art style?

I liked D1 graphics (thought there was nothing much to love honestly, it was pretty much cathdral -> caves -> hell, and it all went for a realistic look in town.

I hated D2 graphics at first because they felt so...muddy. Even for the time, everything felt way too pixelated, but the environments were varied, which was great. The size and details of some of the buildings was also impressive.

D3 blew me away. From the non vertical environments, to the colors and lighting and vistas, I thought it was a fantastic mix of horrific and beautiful scenery, it displayed Sanctuary in more than just dark and grey emo appearance.

I hope they don't go the way of super edgy mode with D4, it would be a shame to D3's talented art team.

I have to say I really like Diablo 3's art style.

Just not for a Diablo game.

From what I recall the developers said they wanted to move away from oversaturation and "bright colours" and into a more dank and gloomy look, the one everyone got captivated with in Diablo 2.

Pretty much into this "muddy" graphic you hated.

Yup. The only one in ever among hundreds of thousands of players, you're the only one with this one specific, totally unique like for something.

I didn't mind the art style at all. Even the UI was beautiful. It was just boring.

I prefer D3 art than D1 or D2 or PoE to be honest.

I dont like "gothic" art style.

I don't know if I loved it but I most definitely did not have any problems with it.

I like it, but I don’t like it for diablo games at all. There’s just something to the more simplistic art style that makes the game more enjoyable for me I don’t know why.

I think it may be a thought of, if all monsters look cool and creepy as fuck, none of them do.

I liked it, looked pretty good to me. Didn't play D2 when it was new though, so I don't have the total experience with that art style.

You seem to be conflating art style with art/graphic detail.

You are most certainly not the only one who loved it. I especially love the models of the bosses, like Diablo and Malthael. They look perfect.
The Void. A force of infinite hunger. Its whispers have broken the will of dragons... and lured even the titans' own children into madness. Sages and scholars fear the Void. But we understand a truth they do not. That the Void is a power to be harnessed... to be bent by a will strong enough to command it. The Void has shaped us... changed us. But you will become its master. Wield the shadows as a weapon to save our world... and defend the Alliance!

It was way too disney and cartoony. Too pg13 when it needed to be hard rated R

The art style for a diablo game should have more in common with the film hellraiser than a Pixar film

    31+ million players.

But I liked it. I also loved how Blizzard trolled the dark edge-lord types with Whimsydale. A big fuck you to them. It was great.

Played all three and still had no issues with the art style or the direction change.

I had no issue with it at all. It still felt well depressing to be in(I mean Act one had a Dark Souls feel to it). Honestly the art style gripes seem pretty dumb. I don't even care for the art style that apparently people love of PoE, it just reminds me of D2.

D3 looked great, I loved the oil painting come to life esthetic. I also think D2 looks great too, still does for the most part.

I don't think the D3 wasn't "dark" enough argument really holds much water.
The main argument seems to center around the removal of a light radius, which created hard to see corners. Most players at the time defeated this darkness with higher brightness levels and many just defeated the purpose with maphacks. Mainly the "darkness" seems like an empty criticism when that ambiance is enjoyed once, the first time you go through an area, then completely ignored or bypassed when doing a Trav run for the thousandth time.

    I'll agree with this.

The artstyle and UI was nice, but there was nothing really particular about it that you feel ''This was amazing!''

Still liking it...the art and the gore....and I am already sold on D4
Same here. I upgraded to a Pentium just to ay D1. Loved D2 and it was by far the most played game of mine on PC until WoW. Say the 2008 at announcement, and was sold despite what others turning into giant pussies over seeing a rainbow at a waterfall. Same with D4, just that snippet from Blizzcon has me sold.

I also like Diablo 3 art style, but Blizzard have very talented artists and animators so I'm confident Diablo 4 will look great even with the change.
And they will probably mix it up a bit.
Besides, I think Torchlight 3 will be an alternative for those who prefer cartoonish look.
