    Secret Tauren Lore??? (Spoilers)

So Ion had this to say in one of the interviews today about characters in the Shadowlands:

But there are some very powerful stories that we can tell involving certain characters who can find closure by being reunited with loved ones or those who were close to them in life. [For example], it’s likely that Baine [Bloodhoof], who finds himself plunged into the Shadowlands, may be able to find and interact with the spirit of [his father] Cairne, and learn about the truth of his people.”
Not only is Cairne missing on Alpha, implying that he may be in a mystery zone that has yet to be revealed, there seems to be some kind of "truth" about the Tauren that is going to be revealed.

    What could it be?

That they all really love Baine. Even Magatha. Especialy Magatha.

Blizzard keeps shilling for Baine for the last few expansions, no way its going to stop now.

Mystery zone? I doubt that. Not yet implemented content, sure.

Well, do we know a lot about the evolution of the Tauren? Or maybe they served other forces deep in their past? Who knows, hopefully it will be an interesting, non-contrived reveal. I'm hopeful that we'll get some great lore-building opportunities spinning out from Shadowlands.

If anything, I hope there turns out to be some kind of ancestral land where ancestor-spirits that maintain the connection to the world of the living reside, communing with shamans. I reckon that would be a suitable place for Cairne to inhabit
Why do I even bother to post on this damned site?

Hard to say - the Tauren have some pretty significant and mostly unexplored connections to the Old Gods, so perhaps there's something to explore there? Perhaps the Earthmother actually exists as one of these nebulous "First Ones" in the Shadowlands, as well?

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see." ― Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

Would be interesting if the Tauren are not native to Azeroth.

Are you talking about how they happen to migrate near Old Gods (Kalimdor, Pandaria, Northrend) or something else?

The truth is, they descended from dairy cows and where uplifted by the old gods as form of nourishment for their armies

This. People forget, we'll have at least two major content patches after launch of Shadowlands, of which they'll have to fill with continuing stories and characters. Anybody we don't see at launch, like Cairne, very good chance we'll see him in subsequent patches.

I've always wondered why Orcs don't milk female Tauren for dairy.

I just did the Tauren heritage armor quest and I gotta say it ties heavily into Shadowlands. Mulgore and Thunderbluff are being assaulted by spirits from beyond and it is stated that the fabric between life and death has been torn. Baine even talks to his father briefly who says "We will talk soon". So we will definitely be seeing Cairne at some point during Shadowlands for sure.

It's referred to in the in-game text "The Sorrow of the Earthmother," Specifically:
As the children of the earth roamed the fields of dawn, they harkened to dark whispers from deep beneath the world. The whispers told the children of the arts of war and deceit. Many of the Shu'halo fell under the shadow's sway and embraced the ways of malice and wickedness. They turned upon their pure brethren and left their innocence to drift upon the plains.
Basically a number of the Tauren were corrupted by the Old Gods slumbering in Azeroth's crust. Tendrils of said corruption likely reside with the Tauren today.

(I kid, but Tauren are one of the few things that are so poorly off even Blizz dreadful writing can't hurt that much)

That's interesting. While I'm not sure if it'll be followed up on, it's always been interesting how Tauren and Night Elves were opposites with their sun and moon themes.

Maybe there will be something that makes Tauren connected to an anti-Elune figure?

Back in the day, Eonar felt sorry for cows and raised some up to stand watch over the rest. Unfortunately, she did it on her coffee break between designing Un'goro Crater and Freya's room in Ulduar, so she forgot to give them any balls or an IQ above 85. Thus, they continue to be allies with people who are starkly against everything they believe in.

"We love nature! Our orc friends chop it down and burn it, goblins pollute and strip mine it, and undead blight bomb the shit out of it. Golly, how does all that keep happening? Moooo!"
