The First Ones crafted Zereth Mortis and used it as the construction facility to create the Shadowlands? And the Shadowlands and Zereth Mortis are NOT in the cosmic Death sphere (whatever that actually is)?

I mean we're assuming that each Zereth wasn't ruled by 1 of the First Ones and that each of those crafted the Zereth and not all at once.

Yes. The Shadowlands & Death Sphere are two different circles on the cosmology chart. Though I think the outside circle are not physical locations or rather, they're abstracts, inconceivable places to mortals. Instead these forces fight for territory in the physical universe.

What's unclear at this point is Zereth Mortis part of the Shadowlands or another layer of reality entirely.

I don't know anymore, the Heart of Eternity and all of that doesn't make much sense unless we believe that Zereth Mortis has the failsafe for the Eternal Cycle due to it being Death aka "The Shutdown Button on Existence"

Personally, I have to assume, since the Titans made their own layer of reality with the Emerald Dream, they also created the veil between life & death. Otherwise everything was just floating around in space on the same layer. Doesn't change the Kyrian's job either way.

Could be that Azeroth is simply the pivot of the mortal plane and all the Zereths connect to it. 7th fractal and all that. :P

Given their purpose, it would actually make the most sense if they all looked roughly the same. Though i expect Blizz to mix things up for the sake of not making it boring to visit a new one.

Guys Eonar went to Zereth Mortis that's why there's signs of the Sandbox being Life and Death (Desert). Obviously this is why everything is the way it is and why Zereth Mortis is important to shutdown Azeroth.
