    Hands down Cata/Vanilla.
Long questlines to get your legendary with a cool open world event when you eventually do. (Tarecgosa’s rest in particular is my favorite)

I would rather them focus on world progression systems like Guild Wars 2. Things that make you more powerful in the open world and in specific zones/continents and have Azeroth wide events constantly taking place people can jump into. I want the world back.

Less expansion only systems, getting tired of it.

A character with a Orange item = Holy crap! Where did you get that!?
This would actually sound good with only 1 exception. If the answer to "Where did you get that!?" is "We worked as team but in the end all of them got the finger while I got a legendary" that is just a no, that sucks.

The truth is though, the color doesn't mean shit ... it's all about the ilvl.

I prefer Wrath/Cata style legendaries where they are tied to a cool lore item and quest chains.

I’m not sure the World of Parsecraft and World of IOscore playerbase could handle that type of system anymore though.

I feel Legion and SL legendaries were bad because they were basically talents you had to jump through hoops to use rather than adding talent rows.

And im the medically insane person here? FFS

Ofcourse Shadowlands system is the best! There is no "but" or any other better system

People are just blindly shitting on Shadowlands...disappointing

Mists or Legion by far. I particular enjoyed the Mists iterations with solo class challenges and the like.

They were all bad and had their own unique problems.

I can't help but fucking laugh at the people voting legion, talk about forgetting all the terrible shit that came with the RNG system, good luck if you got 2-3 terrible Legendaries at the start and literally had to shelf that character because it was dead then.

SL could be the best if the prices are roped in a bit, though I am not opposed to a MoP style Legendary either.

Current SL legendaries is just the best system.

Could improve on it by removing the need for the white crafted precursor. But outside of that it’s almost perfect.

Early SL wasn’t that good tho

    I really liked legion.
Was it a bit frustrating, that i got my bis leggo only 1 week before it was nerfed months into the expansion? A bit sure.

But when you got one.... damn that was a good feeling.

Just maybe put the general and class specific ones in differnnt pools wiht their own "CD".

SL i hated. So much. Why are they legendary? There is nothing legendary about them. The deterministic approach is all well and good... but so boring. You got what you need and you have been done with it.
BfA was also okish with the essences. What was annoying was that you had to do PvP in many classes and i don't think there is anything in this game i HATE as much as i hate PvP.

But the BEST was classic and woltk/Ulduar. Not many people get it and it takes dedication. I got the one from Ulduar. (main heal and raidlead XD) and i don't think anything in this game ever felt that good.
Combination maybe of legion random leggos and raid leggos you have to work for. And yes i want it to be in the raid. Non repeatable. Mythic+ and PvP would not work with that and opwn world should never have these kinds of rewards.

The one arching issue with a lot of the leggos these days though is its like its the same power I got in legion.. or that set bonus I got in x,y,z tier. So what it has started to feel like is the expansion releases and I lose that power.. then I got to jump though hoops to get it back again.

MoP based one where it is unique-equip and there are three types. Raid\M+\PvP. They're all in the same slot. Make it some shit like a neck. Lock 1 slot for expac. The best part is, make the quests and grind specific to the type of content you are doing and make it account wide progress. When you're done then all of your toons are done. Start a new character? Your level 1 has a scaled version of it.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say none at all. In early WoW (Classic-WotLK), you were lucky if your class had a legendary questline or drop, and even then, the chances of you being chosen to obtain it over another guildmate were slim at best. Future attempts at legendaries seemed awesome at first, but in practice, the supposed "legendary armament" begins to feel less amazing when every single player of your role/class is rocking it.

And beyond that, legendaries start to sour when your realize they are nothing but borrowed power that is designed to make you feel strong, but are left feeling substantially weaker when a new expansion drops and the strength you once wielded is pulled out from under your feet like a frayed rug. Yes, MMO's typically make you feel weaker at an expansion start, but usually this doesn't come at the price of you feeling mechanically weaker. If you are blessed, a minor fraction of that power is given back to you in the form of a talent (or a baseline ability if the god's favor your class).

SL's arguably had the best approach, but the absurd amount of gold required to upgrade a single legendary to its highest rank was sheer insanity. Casual players who didn't hoard gold were essentially fucked, which had the potential of preventing them from being selected during raid night because Jimmy happened to play the same spec, but had more gold to purchase a stronger legendary.

But yeah, I loathe borrowed power, and WoW has used it as a crutch for far too long.

Didn't do the WoD-Stuff, because... well it was WoD.

I personally don't think that the system was bad, yes, in the end everyone had it (the same as in Legion and SL honestly), but i think that most people were satisfied to have it finished.
I have to agree. Having to do every raid for the questline even with LFR, was pretty great. I didn't mind that everyone got it, even though I raided at the time.

None preferably, at least with the modern version of legendaries that adds some gimmick to or changes some spell for your class. Just have good class design to begin with instead, please. Unfortunately that hasn't been the case for a really long time.

If I had to pick a poison, I'd probably go with mop/wod.

    Wrath.

Having them be a guild effort, closely tied to raids and be somewhat rare made them feel genuinely legendary and awesome to see.

I remember inspecting people with the Ulduar and Icecrown legendary and thinking how impressive it was to obtain it.

None, its a trash system that either was just a glorified talent that blocked gear slot or super rng slot machine or gold token sink.

They should not introduce retarded systems like that ever again but if i had to chose, i would go with glorified talent that blocks gear slot because at least its not giga rng nor giga gold sink.
    Ship has been abandoned.

As other people said: none, makes one gearslot drops feel horrible, too big a powerspike when you get it, usually not even tied to a challenge. They felt completely pointless in all the recent expansions.

I’d say MoP/WoD but I’d rather not have a questline that is a core part of the story suddenly be gutted at the end. So went with Legion assuming it’s how it was in it’s very last version.

I never minded rng gear drops and legion legendaries were an interesting source of gameplay towards the end of the expansion’s life.

    Although none would be ideal.
