    Soaring Demon Hunters

Illidan could fly using his wings, so why not the player DH? Yeah, yeah, Illidan is one of the most powerful characters in the entire canon, so? To that I ask: It doesn't actually take much to fly in the Warcraft universe, now does it? When you consider everything that is capable of it, flight becomes less special from an in-universe point of view. Flight is sort of a menial task for the average Azerothian, I mean you can take a heckin' flying animal taxi to travel between most locations around the world(s).

So I think DHs should eventually get their own version of [Soar]. The following is my own quick, perhaps misguided idea lol who knows! Tell me what you think.

[Infernal Jet] - Demon Hunter Ability
Manifest demonic wings, leap up and unleash a downward blast of chaotic energy that launches you into the air.

    Infernal Jet compared to Soar
    - Equal cast time and cooldown, slightly lower max speed, slightly worse directional control
    - Pitching down builds momentum quicker, pitching up and using [Skyward Ascent] both drain less momentum
    - As you gain speed your wings start to glow and grow distorted by Fel/Chaos, with increasingly intense particle effects trailing behind you
    - At high speed you may resemble a Felfire Hawk blazing through the air, at max speed an Infernal Meteor streaking across the sky
    - Glyphs for this ability could reskin it to be smokey and shadowy like Illidan's form in Nighthold, orange and yellow fire like [Glyph of Crackling Flames]

I like the idea, maybe we somehow use the fel to help some dragons and they somehow boost the demon hunters to be able to fly?

"I, Lefnogard, leader of the fel dragons, thank you for saving us from the insidious corruption of the old gods by balancing it out with the burning corruption of the fel. Ours is a precarious existence, but we will balance these forces with one another and retain our wills and soar higher than ever before! Speaking of which..."

If Demon Hunters had this, I'd roll one immediately.

Lets just meld every character to the same thing and give 0 uniqueness to anyone. Dracthyr should be able to double jump and see stealthies with their wings.

Just put it in Engineering, so then everyone can enjoy it

Literally every character gets dragonriding though, and it's not like there are any other characters with built-in wings out there.

lol dragonriding is just in the dragon isles. those built in wings for dhs also have a few holes in them, kinda not meant for flying their double jump and glide is fine.

Well that's a cool opinion bro.

I disagree though, personally I think DH is the perfect candidate for another version of Soar. They both have Glide, are hero classes, have two specs, DH with Tank/Melee DPS, DE with Heal/Ranged DPS. The classes are already reflective of each other, which makes DH Soar even more sensible an option. Of course, those points are all nothing next to the single most critical piece of evidence, the most important rule in judging the quality of speculative video game concepts: THE RULE OF COOL

This opinion is actually a fact. But ok. Its funny how no one wanted them to fly until Dracthyr came out and had flying.

When you say reflective of each other you mean complete opposites the only thing similar is they have wings right?

Demon Hunters were originally planned to have their wings out permanently and be able to fly, but due to "tech limitations" at the time, it was scrapped. But now that Dracthyr are developed to have these capabilities, I think it's only fair to also give this ability to the class who was technically first in line.. Also, didn't blizzard copy and paste a demon hunter only ability and give it to priests?? Btw, every class has something that is similar to another class.

I think Demon Hunters should get traditional flight.

Can you show me where they said that? Because from what I remember, that's false.

I could vibe with DH "Flight Form" if they added it, but it wouldn't be as dope as Soar right? I mean come on, Demon Hunters are cool and Soar is cool. It's a good match!

I also started thinking of a Druid version, called something like "Aviana's Gift" or "Mark of the Talon." I thought that would start to be too much though. They already have Flight Form so it should be left at that. If they did get Soar, though, it would be best if it was incorporated into Flight Form. Otherwise, Flight Form would be eclipsed by the superior new style of flight.

I mean how I said it. The classes are reflective of each other in a few ways already: They both have wings and can use Glide, both are hero classes, both have two specs, with the DH being Tank and Melee DPS whereas the DE is Heal and Ranged DPS. There are probably even more small points of similarity and contrast between the two!

[Infernal Jet] would be different enough from [Soar]. Firstly, the theming and aesthetic are completely different. Soar is graceful, windy, whimsical, evokes feelings of freedom and exploration. Infernal Jet is brutal, fiery, distorted and also inspires freedom, though it is chaotic.

If DE Soar is flying a kite, DH Infernal Jet is launching a bottle rocket.

I tired to think if it can be applied to other classes and the first thing that crossed my mind was a warrior swinging and whirlwinding his weapon like a chopper

Drachtyr literally have the Demon Hunter glide ability.

    So yes.

It's a literal fact that dragon riding for all characters is only in the dragon Isle. Its a literal fact that dhs have a glide that is good enough and reflects the class. The only demon hunter that can fly in lore and otherwise is Illidan and that is because he absorbed the skull of gul'dan. Its fact.

A tank is the opposite of a healer. A melee DPS is opposite of a ranged dps. The only thing they have that are similar is they can glide. Dhs have holes in their wings and can't keep them out like a dragon, the only one who could was illidan for reasons stated above. You all want everything to be the same but then complain that there is no uniqueness in the game. BTW dhs start at level 8 and dracthyr start at 58.

But guess what dhs have that dracthyr dont. Double jump. Also dhs can't keep their wings out for sustained flight.

Yeah on the matter of dragon riding I'm not arguing about that.
However, DH Glide being "good enough" is inherently subjective, as is claiming it's reflective of the class. Different people have different perceptions of these things!
Illidan being the only confirmed Demon Hunter to fly isn't confirmation that he is the only one capable of flying. As I discussed in my original post, having the ability to fly on Azeroth is relatively trivial and doesn't necessarily distinguish a higher level of capability. People can teleport and create portals, allowing them to travel instantaneously to their destination, lessening the need for other methods of travel including flight.

Yes, but there is more to comparison between two subjects than similarities. The contrast is very important, sometimes more important!

I don't see shared mechanics and similar abilities as detrimental to a class's overall uniqueness. You're saying we all complain about that, but I don't; I think the classes in WoW are unique enough to begin with. As a matter of fact, who in this thread is concerned about a lack of uniqueness other than you?

Ya man. Druids obviously too. And paladins when they use avenging wrath. Hunters get aspect of the soar. Or anyone that got the wings from the pre-order. And then they can put more wings in the shop and u can swipe ur card to soar.
