Orphaned Land - Birth of the Three (The Unification)

Only heard few songs by them before and they sounded nice so early this week I got myself Mabool and The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR. Wonderful music, really works for me. Especially the song I linked I've had playing alot.

Orphaned Land takes alot of influences from Middle Eastern traditional music and plays oriental metal combining it with different genres. While their lyrical themes seem to revolve around the three religions of Judaism, Islam and Christianity I recommend them even if a person usually steers away from any "religious" band. Orphaned Land uses them more as concepts rather than the "God is great, he saves!" that some have a problem with.

Mayhem and Gorgoroth first got me into metal, from there on I started listening to Burzum, Dimmu Borgir and a little bit of Dark Funeral, cant get enough of that black metal.

For more 'shawarma'-metal, try Melechesh. They're half dutch these days at that.

Wish their recorded music was higher quality, that's my main complaint about most BM.
Then again, I suppose it's almost considered part of the genre :

I listen to a TON of metal XD
Too many to name but most of em are Death metal, power metal, New Wave of British Heavy Metal, heavy metal, some black metal (like Burzum and Nehemah), but mostly death metal.
Also listen to grindcore, deathgrind, goregrind, speedcore, etc etc.... But I guess those aren't really metal :P

As it was suggested to me I have now listened to the new Finntroll album some 4-5 times to get a good idea where they're coming from. Never been a follower, but their style is clearly bit different to what it used to be on say Jaktens Tid. Most songs are less catchy and there seems to be a greater variety of ideas present. I would say this album sounds like a stepping stone between what they're aiming for and what used to be their niché. Guessing the last two albums have been dividing the fanbase alot based on whether a person wanted them to remain as they are or go for the change.

Overall some really strong compositions and some weaker ones (or perhaps they just haven't grown yet). Especially live there are cases which truly shine. Chanting Solsagan with some thousand other people was great fun. As of currently my favourite is still Den Frusna Munnen.

PS. Just to annoy some Maiden fans I must voice my honest opinion. Virtual XI is better than The Number of the Beast.

Baha. Why'd I even put Helloween up there as American? -sigh- I was at work and clearly off my game.

Indeed, both Lantlôs' and Alcest's recent albums are very strong. A recommendation for everyone who likes music with a special atmosphere in it.
