I fully agree on what he's saying.
Thank you for this as it it quite clear that you put a lot of time and effort in this one.
All my respect to you my friend.

I think some people mistake 'frustration with people who constantly do stupid things over and over' to elitism. Now, I know im not perfect. I've messed up before--we all have, it's just that I learn from the mistakes I make, and you have to realize that sometimes death can be RNG. A lot of times you can be healed thru stupid mistakes. If Cata is unforgiving as they say its going to be then you might not want to waste your mana on dps who constantly: stand in fire, stand in cleave...etc.
DPS will have to adjust a lot more to taking less damage, not only, with being smart and getting out of things, but to use defensive CDs when group/raid damage becomes heavy. You might not get a heal during healer triage.
Great guide sir. I read everything you posted for all roles. I cast my vote to makes this a sticky. Also I am printing this out to keep as reading material for the bathroom
Amazingly useful, thank you. I've made it simple for anyone who wants to cite this in groups. Just say:
"/p cata.ajs.com"
Plug that into a browser, and you'll end up here.
Excellent!
This completely brings to mind my BC tanking days where we had to use walls on pulls, be mindful of surrounding mobs, LOS, and most pulls started with a rogue sap and a avenger's shield. I'm glad you gave me the fair warning on the carelessness I would have ran into Cata with and hope the game has reached the level of difficulty you're describing. I miss the difficulty of trash and content back in BC. I especially hope it's as good as you describe as being a holy pally most of this expansion has been a cake walk, but a fun one at that.
If I had to pick one major point for people to take out of this is that dps job is not only to deal damage but use all available tools to help the group succeed.
This is the single greatest advice to be given to date and, in fact, I created an account here on MMO just to reinforce this. I played beta extensively, mainly as a holy paladin, and successfully completed every single heroic and every raid on normal. Wrath was about numbers, bringing in more players to add to the player base. However, Cata is about the skill of the player which has been sorely needed for quite some time. Heed the information in this post as it will give you a vast edge over your competition. Thanks to the poster as this information alone will help the standard Wrath player tremendously.
I actually read this on my guilld Forums! Don't be alarmed! He copied it from you
Its a nice read, reviewing the basics helps alot, and since tons of the WoW community nowadays, are new players, probably they didn't know about this.

I know this has been featured on the front page of MMO-Champ, but I wish there was a way that blizzard could make every player read this. Every point Daetur has made is very valid. This guide would make both the casual gamer and the elitist better.
Good Job Daetur, this is an amazing post.
Indeed. I was leveling in Wrath dungeons recently, and was reminded of how much harder things like Utgard Keep are on normal mode with scrub gear than on heroic with modern ilvls. It's like walking into the past. At one point, our tank charged forward and our healer was still in the previous room. Pretty typical for a heroic, but he would have died in 3 hits if I (enh shamman) hadn't had my heals keyed up right and ready to go. Even still, he was close to death by the time the healer made it to us, and of course, nothing was dead yet because I was our highest dpser, and I was full-time healing.
Good DPSing is about making the run move smoothly. Sometimes that means burning things down faster so that you can get it over with. Sometimes that means doing no DPS at all. Sometimes it means pulling agro or popping a boss cooldown on trash. You have to be prepared to do these things and not just whine about the healer or tank after a wipe that you could have prevented.
How not to suck in Cata: cata.ajs.com
Regardless of if someone has cleared all Wrath content or not it is easy to see many people have developed a lot of the bad habits listed in this post. You only need to look at all the "omg why do the dps insist on pulling in heroics" threads or heck do some lfg grouping to see the bad habits because the honest truth is people started to be able to get away with these things.
This is the number one thing which always amazed me when i was tanking in Vanilla and BC... why would you run away from your tank if you have agrros?? lol Thanks for including this because I know as a shadow priest the last few weeks especially I have taken to kiting mobs because I can and this made me giggle
Im still very skeptical that cata heroics are hard. Its been faceroll for soooooo long. At this point i wont believe till i have a group that fails to complete it. It would make me very happy to see that but i highly doubt this will happen. Also good write up but at this point i just dont see it comming to pass.
This is an amazing thread. +9001 to you, sir.
I registered on MMO-Champion and all I got was this lousy signature.
I'm a cynic. Deal with it!
While some people think this is an amazing thread, it's just common sense. Should stop praising this guy for stating the obvious.
Sorry for ask, but did you play BC dungeons ? or even vanila?
if so, then SORRY. but ...
even in LK (first patch before Ulduar) heroics was not a funny thing to do with so much reckless.
who dont remember how hard was take the right spot to avoid Loki blast without go to far and take too much damage per ticks ? i remember finishing him with 2~3 players.
and it's LK times!
let's see, HoR, i saw a LOT of ppl leaving this dung cuz is "HARD" ... i did it in the first day and i remember my hearth bumping fast while LK was chasing us, without know how many barriers to finish that...
it's not for "Sooooooooo long" as you says. sorry, it's my opinion
PS: today i play around in HoR, i said FIRST DAY! (I spend 6h in the first week of Toravon to get him down)
