defintitely a machete!
Chainsaw. xD
a broad sword and tonfas have always been my favorite, but kusarigama is always a good one
Sitting next to a katana, wakizashi and a Nepalese khukri on a shelf.. I simply find their elegant shapes aesthetically pleasing, as well as having a preference of finesse in style over brute force. In terms of utility, where katana falls literally short, a naginata would be my favorite polearm. Coincidentally, a 3D model of a katana I've been working on is open in the background in Max, can't get a satisfactory hamon effect on the blade without it looking fake...
I like sabres the most, cutting and piercing with them is quite nice. One of my favourites is a Russian sabre called shashka. Those things are incredibly sharp and look like big knives. An example, from Wikipedia, would be: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._Cosaca_II.jpg
Other than that, spear/staff are excellent
Obviously a scythe.
Once finals are over, I plan on putting on a long black monk's habit[like this one], paint my face black, then walk into a retirement home carrying my scythe.
Then again, might have to find out whether this could have legal consequences...
BTW: Is it pronounced as ssythe or as skythe?
Good 'ole fashioned Gladius. There hasn't been a more deadly melee weapon in all of history, and countless history books will back that up.
Real life melee weapon, I'd say maybe a 1-handed sword or axe. Light, easy to use and higly effective.
Something like this for sword:

And something like this for axe:

I'll also take these daggers:

And a bow:

And I'm ready to go!

Kukri.
There's a reason why the Gurkhas are the most respected and feared light infantry in the world...and the kukri is a big part of it.

Only because back then, everyone else had such a butter knife. A gladius wielding warrior wouldn't stand a chance against a longsword wielding warrior. The bigger knife wins.
Oh please, that crap is about as effective in REAL combat, you know, outside TV shows, as it is based on reality.
The first weapon that got into my mind was the Katana and I must stick to that weapon.
It's a really good looking crafted weapon, with an amazing strength!
Even the bo-staff is a nice one, who is simple and fun to play around with, I must still go with the katana.
For the one posting the picture on the Kukri I must say thanks, now I know what kind of blade I have on my wall at home, I always thought the design of that blade was weird

Knees and elbows!
I think maybe a hammer if that counts, since I haven't needed to kill anyone yet. You can swing it pretty fast and it's very usefull around the house.
But in some kind of zombie apocalypse I would like to have a short sword more, that is easy to handle and easy to use in thight spaces.
A big fat Yari or Naginata.
And a Daikatana as backup...I'm rather big.
Katana, only sword to stand the test of time imo.
