    tank doesnt speak english...

i went into grim batol to heal for my gf as she needed 9% to hit 85 and the first thing the tank say was "no hablo ingles" (i dont speak english)

my first reaction was to tell him to stop acting stupid or ill kick him and tank myself, no response, i told him in spanish and he said he will do it be he really didnt know english...i said i would explain and we went on...to my surprise, he did everything FINE,,,PERFECT, as i explained each fight...yet the dps couldnt CC, hunter couldnt trap the purple trogg, they got hit by every blitz, by every fire elemental add in the 3rd boss, stood in front of the boss that changes weapons when he had the shield, didnt get adds on time on last boss etc`...point is, just because someone does not speak english doesnt mean they dont deserve a chance or cant perform well, yeh maybe he is better off on a latin server but we are all free to play were we want...so keep this in mind if you ever encounter a similar situation =)

*confused* Why would speaking spanish make him a bad player?

In beta I was continually paired up with Russian guilds, and while It was often frustrating with them talking to each other in russian characters and not understanding what they said, they were generally cool guys and would chat to me in english about random things.

didnt say he was bad, but he had no clue what to do, and if he gets a grp who doesnt have someone to speak to him in spanish ofc he would get kicked

I actually do this haha. It's great when they think you don't know what they are saying.

But yea last night I had this group of 4 spanish-speaking guildies queue for just the first boss of Grim Batol for the achievement. I was healing, everything went fine, and we got our achievement.

That being said I have no problem with non-english speakers, just overall bad players.

I used to like WoW. I still do, but I used to, too.

I'm always worried about someone not understanding english (and of course they aren't going to speak a different language I know otherwise, it's always going to be some sort of spanish) just because I wouldn't know how to tell them to fix something wrong they were doing (if they were doing something wrong).

There was one time in HFR while leveling that the tank ported out of the dungeon because someone d/c'd and when the guy got back he didn't come back in. I asked him to come back in like 8 times over five minutes and he didn't come back in or say anything while we all waited on him for a rather long time. Later I found out he spoke spanish (and I'm assuming no english) when he tried to communicate with us.

That situation is what gave me this fear.

So somebody that doesnt speak english is being stupid to you? Or no, somebody you accuse to pretend to not speak english..
The fact that you were surprised that he did everything fine and perfect tells me that you have your prejudges against spanish speaking people which is quite surprising considering your Puertorican.

Well thanks for the advice on the MMO forums although it was a very strange and non structured one. Here a pointer from me: some people don't read "nonstop English". Especially the not native speaking like myself. So if you're going to make a post about not judging people by their language please make sure next time that the non-native-speaking can read it.

There is a vote kick option there for those who don't have the patience for bad players. Generally "no hablo ingles" suggests troll to me, I mean why would he assume you know spanish and not just run it through a translator and tell you in english. At the end of the day communication is certainly an issue but if theres several people getting fustrated, kick him, if not then don't whine about it.

I'm puertorrican as well and I understand where the OP comes from.

I for one DREAD being paired up with people from Ragnaros (a latin server) since most of the people i've met from there are terrible players. I have IRL friends that play there that are excellent but I always get the dumb ones in the LFG.

A lot of people don't realize the prejudice us latinos go through sometimes when playing a (mostly) american game. The words "dumb mexican" get thrown around a lot. For some reason some people can't get over the fact that there's a possibility a language barrier may pop up and if people aren't "speakin' 'merican" (english) then they have nothing of value to contribute and are too stupid to learn their vastly superior language.

Offtopic: Good to see another "boricua" on these boards

when he said that, i thought he was just trolling, i have had that happen PLENTY of times....and the reason i was surprised he did so well was because he told me he had NEVER been there and had no clue what to do..u implying that i am judjing him for being spanish made me laugh my ass off tho lol thnx for that one...and my post doesnt have to be structured for YOU...again, u made me laugh

Try being a foreign and play on US servers where everyone (rightfully i must admit) assumes that you are yankee. Thankfully a lot of yankee teens can't even speak their own language half as good as foreign people. But anyways, how can you be a nerd that is playing a mmo so much to run 85 heroics yet dont even speak english? English is extremely easy to learn, intuitive to learn even, while working with software or browsing inet, it will learn itself good enough to speak with people so they would at least understand you.

Because the majority of wow players doesnt live in america, thats why.
Some countries hardly HAVE english as their subject on school.
Some people are actually old enough to not having english on school when they were younger.

And why is english easy to learn? People learns english because of how surrounded you are by it, while some countries/age groups is not.

I could say "hey Norwegian is so easy to learn, why cant you speak it?" ..

Assuming that other players are a) stupid b) incomptent/bad c) both because they dont speak the same native language as you, is just... stupid.

Aha? You do know that the OP failed to mention that the "troll" told him that it was his first Grim Batol, right? So where am I coming from? Somebody accusing people for a) trolling and b) being surprised even though he only spoke spanish. Thats whats in the opening post.

And then, @OP, I didn't say specifically for me I said for people that aren't used to English. If somebody is trolling because they pretend not to speak a language then you must also assume somebody is trolling by writing about this topic and then failing horribly to do it in a manner that its actually understandable. Its called irony when things like this happen.
Actually when I read your reply to me it makes me wonder why I care to respond to it. Its like trying to have a serious conversation with the impersonated /2

Hello. I play on Quel'thalas US, it is a Latin American server, nor spanish, nor mexican (I'm Mexican). OP has a very valid point. Most of the people that plays in my server simply suck at playing. Because here there is no "gaming culture" of any sort. Let me explain a little bit.

I'm the GM of a 10 man guild. We come from all the top guilds of Latin America, clearly, I'm in need of new people to fill my two groups. But I can't recruit. Almost everyone doesn't have a clue about raiding, or the class they are playing. They don't want to fill online aplications, don't want to recieve advide and most of them, are simply noobs with elitist atitude.

Would be a wonderful answer but sadly this all happened on English US servers. The US has Spanish servers specifically for those that do not want to deal with English. Then again, I think I read that US-English servers get paired with the Spanish ones in RND. Now that would be a huge fail from Blizzard.
I would play on French servers in Europe but sadly if there ever were a communication problem only few French bother to learn a second language to the extend that its more than "sorry I dont speak English".

Oh and to the person asking why somebody would assume that saying "I dont speak English" in their native language is being just as stupid, people usually understand exactly that sentence if the language is relatively common where they live. In Europe where theres a whole bunch of languages on a small space people tend to understand it in 4-6 foreign languages
