    Bad ANet! Bad!

    It's not that bad if it's a 1 time purchase I guess.

Could be a backdoor sub fee, but seems odd, could also be something international (assuming they're still due for China?).

the dangers of data mining. I recall other items being datamined and they never came to the actual game.

could also be an april fools joke

On the one hand, I have no issues with this. More optional monetization channels is perfectly fine.

On the other, oh boy is this going to cause a shitstorm and look bad.

We'll see what happens with it though, if anything happens at all.

I was almost going to say I see it going like the gem store. An initial freak out, people warm up to the idea, and then eventually nobody cares except a few raging haters.

Well, the biggest thing that will come of is is (if it actually happens) will be the cries of B2P being "dead", for sure. I really hope this doesn't happen, because I'm totally not looking forward to the state of these forums when it's announced if it does -_-

Looks like a one time purchase item rather than a sub, like the other bundles of items such as Black Lion Introductory Package, Recovery Pack, Tradesman Package, etc. I mean, how could a system that would lose you your extra bank tab or character slot if you stopped paying even work?

If it's close to the cost of a character slot + bank tab it would sell. If it's priced less than a character slot + bank tab it would probably sell like hotcakes.

I'd like clarification on the teleport to friend and resurrection buff though. (and yeeks those misspellings!!)

Looks like another package offer like the Heroic Edition or maybe an update to the Heroic Edition.

Also, people may get confused by saying it was confirmed by Dulfy. Dulfy is just confirming it exists within the datamining of the EotM client. She's not confirming it's a real thing or what it means.

I'm having TOR nightmares, so won't comment...

Though, if I were a developer of video games, I'd randomly put in all sorts of stuff to mess with dataminers.

    Usually it works in one of two ways;

    1. the items or characters that occupy the extra slots are greyed out. Inaccessible till the fee is paid again. Where then the items can be moved or accessed freely again.

    2. The items or characters that occupy the extra slots are greyed out, but tagged as "remove only". Allowing one to move the items of those slots but unable to occupy the slots again till the fee is paid.

This is a testing branch. We conduct internal experiments for various territories on our testing branches. This particular experiment is not being tested for the West.

As always, keep in mind that we test a lot more than we ship, so data-mining is no guarantee of anything. If we have announcements to make about future content, we’ll make them through the usual official channels.

Hahahaha, this is awesome. Best news I have heard all day. The champion of B2P is testing subscription. Oh this is too good to be true.

Off course I did, they pulled a crappy Blizzard excuse. Testing something in "English" for non-Western markets. Sounds legit, honestly just the fact they are testing this, brings immense joy to me. This is all I need for now. I hope it comes true for more joy in the future!

Well, we know ArenaNet is big but they aren't big enough to bypass Chinese law ;-)

@Sharuko - of course they develop in English then localize for other markets. Most of the devs are English speaking people.

But Anet are an American developer. They write and code using English, then it is translated for other markets. Just as Korean, German and Japanese developers write and code in their native language- which is translated for other markets.

Localization is one of the last processes in development. Usually left almost the very end of a development cycle. Like the very end.

I remember when we got a patch from our Taiwanese partners, the US language division didn't even get full review till like the week the patch was to go live. It had hit our EU and SA division only a day or so before us. Where our NA translation was based off the EU prep sheet.

    This is pretty common.

It would be shocking if they had a subscription option, after all the crap they talked over the years especially with their emigration video. But I still hope it is true. It isn't out of the realm of possibility though, given the bleeding revenue figures since release.

    lol sharuko

Anyone who has spent time with a company that brings over games from another region knows that most work like this is done by the developer of origin. The local companies specializes in localizing it.
