Question Anyone else super stupid with money?

Last year I got $10,000 from profit splitting with a family member after flipping a home. Being the idiot that I was I blew it over the next few months. I didn't save or invest a penny of it as a smart person would. I spent $3500 on dental implants, which was super important but monthly payments would be better. The remainder of the money was spent on new running shoes, 5/10K races, eating out, and other random ass stuff like a $115/month gym membership I didn't even upgrade my PC or pay off any student loans lol. I felt like a lottery winner just spending money for no reason. I am in a worse position than I was before got the money. Dave Ramsey and other financial gurus would be angry at me.

... No, I am not. In fact I don't have buyer's remorse, I have potential buyer's remorse. Every purchase beyond the necessities and bills each month, is carefully planned and I rarely buy stuff on a whim. I am saving to build a house and for retirement.

I grew up in split households where one parent (dad) was frugal, very wise with money and kept a tight ship. The other parent (At the time undiagnosed ADHD and clinically depressed mom) was super stupid with money and we'd often go hungry because of it. We didn't have much of an income, yet when money came in it was spent on nail salons, expensive clothes (for us kids too) and alcohol.

Naturally, that allowed me to see both what can be if you're smart with your money, and what can be when you spend it as soon as you get it.

I'm sorry that you've ended up where you're at though, I know my mom used to suffer severe anxiety (which was self-medicated with alcohol) when she realized she'd spent too much money.

No, I usually just sit on any extra I have and it builds up. Not having kids or a spouse also helps.

How could you possibly be worse off? Doesn't sound like you accrued any debt. You're just 'stupid.'

So you had 6500 that went to races. Shoes. And eating out in a few months?

    How?

Not great, but I'm never in possession of that kind of extra cash.

What subscriptions? How much was the dishwasher? How often did you eat out? Why did you buy a new dishwasher?

Nah. Other than my PC and shit that I actually need go about my life, I hardly buy anything/spend any money; I never make spur of the moment purchases. I also never gamble and I don't drink/do drugs. Even my home is rather spartan and basically the 'guys really live in apartments like this' meme, only I have even less than that.

Amazon prime, hello fresh, stitchfix, chewy, YouTube TV. I bought a $1000 dishwasher and had it installed. My old dishwasher was working fine but it was a plain black color

$1000?!! You couldn't get a dishwasher like this?

Amazon prime is like what $110?, how much did you spend on stitch fix? and YouTube tv is only $50 and very much worth it.

I've been really reckless with money in the past, but have been a lot better over the last 6 months. I still spend too much on take outs/junk food/soft drinks but at least I am improving.

I read a REALLY good tip on another forum earlier that said if you want to prepare for a change of circumstances (higher rent, more luxuries etc.) you should "spend" the additional money as a test by putting the extra cost into savings and seeing if you can get by with doing so. For example, if you are thinking of moving into a new place with higher rent, put the extra cost that would incur into your savings each time you pay the bill and see if you can get by. If you are able to stay afloat and all the bills are kept up to date, then you can upgrade to the new place.

No, I'm actually the complete opposite :P Always been good with money handling and managing my finances. If I want something badly then I will buy it, but I have to justify to myself first, I'm definitely not an impulse buyer. I've still got a Samsung S7 phone that is over 3 years old, and I'd like to buy a new car, but there's no need for it right now.

I manage my finances just fine, but I prefer actually spending my money on stuff that I enjoy instead of hoarding it forever like some goblin.

I’m fine with money so long as I don’t have enough that might buy me new toys.

For example, I have over 6000 saved up in my bank that i’m scared to even touch.

But I have about 1000 in another account that i can do whatever with and i’m seriously thinking of buying a replica of the coat he wore in Bladerunner 2049.

Since we’re entering that era anyways.

Nope, I have never been stupid with money. My husband and I have no debt and plenty in the bank. Thankfully my husband is not bad with money either. Not that we don't buy stuff but we rarely eat out, buy clothing we don't need and we workout at home. Most of our non bill money goes to our pets, computers and gaming.

Did you have a great few months?

Of course you could have spend the money in better places, but if you had a great time (and can manage now) I don't see the problem.

Some people just keep saving money and never spent it on anything fun, this is worse imo.

There's no need to feel bad about it, move on and take your lessons. If you ever get $10k from splitting a home again, split it. 5k for fun times, 5k to pay off anything you got to pay off. This is ofcourse if you're not in financial trouble, then there's $0 for fun times.
