The Moon or Mars which should be the first settlement all things being equal?
Personally I’d go with the moon. Easier to get to so easier to send supplies until they become sustainable.

The moon, obviously. We need to practice before sending people to Mars, since that's a one way ticket.
earths gonna go up four degrees by 2100 any of these dumb space cunts think they are going anywhere when people get thirsty and hungry are in for a bad time
The moon has to be first, because we need a basecamp for longer missions. Starting from the moon is far easier then starting from the earth.
I'm not sure what you mean by "all things being equal" - moon is orders of magnitude easier than mars, although both are difficult, of course.
But moon first - practice, of course, but also we should have had a base up there since the 1970's.

And we can "practice" and refine so many techniques while there. 3D printing from materials on planet. Growing crops in low gravity. All the things we need to have down before we send a colony to mars.
The Moon, obviously. easy to send supplies, comunications only take around 1 second.
Judging the current situation, i don't see anyone walking on Mars in the next 100 years. But all the technology to settle on the Moon, is already avaiable. The problem with Mars, is that we need to gather resources there, for that, we need better technology.
Lol, good point. I guess they would come out of the word work without that caveat.
What are your thoughts? It seems a moon base is both good by itself, and a solid way to make Mars easier. Or perhaps we could do both. Build the moon base for long term study, and send teams to Mars, to start that process as well.

Not sure it would be - no reason why we couldn't send people back on ships that are dropping people off. Not easy, of course - and to your point, I'm sure we'd find plenty of people willing to not come back.

Probably more than that - which is actually an argument to get off planet and possibly make others permanently habitable.
"Shortly"?

Moon has H3, which is very valuable here on Earth - if we can set up a mining and transport operation, it could fund the long term colonization of the moon. Plus, it makes sense to colonize the moon on a number of different levels.
But Mars does seem to have more to offer long term. Extreme long term - centuries - we could terraform it to a second Earth.
Well they both have some minerals and access to more land and sunlight but they're both pretty worthless until we figure out geo-engineering and terraforming.
Expanding into the solar system is mainly philosophical at this point, it's about inspiring people, reaching for the stars, sparking our imagination, etc.
I think we'll have different circumstances on Mars. Just to start out with, Mars needs MORE Co2 to get an atmosphere going.

Agreed. But we have to start somewhere. We have to start doing it at some point. Agreed though - actual colonies outside of Moon/Mars are centuries away.

It'll probably be both at roughly the same time because its a competition between the US and China. If China gets it done first, they will claim they own both the Moon and Mars. If the US gets it done first, it'll probably settle the issue as some sort of international claim.
TO FIX WOW:1. smaller server sizes & server-only LFG awarding satchels, so elite players help others. 2. "helper builds" with loom powers - talent trees so elite players cast buffs on low level players XP gain, HP/mana, regen, damage, etc. 3. "helper ilvl" scoring how much you help others. 4. observer games like in SC to watch/chat (like twitch but with MORE DETAILS & inside the wow UI) 5. guild leagues to compete with rival guilds for progression (with observer mode).6. jackpot world mobs.

The moon but they will have to go pretty deep underneath the surface to prevent impact damage to any structure they would build since there is no atmosphere to burn up materials.
