    Bruce Lee V.S. Muhammad Ali

I was thinking about legendary fighters today and i though. What would happen if 2 greats who never fought each other had duked it out?

Bruce Lee: One of the greatest Martial artists of all time, trained by possibly the greatest (Ip man, who was damned near a superhuman so i didn't use him)

Muhammad Ali: One of the greatest boxers of all time.

Their fighting styles and personalities were completely different, i think it would be an interesting match.

Both were fast, both were strong, and both were legendary.

    Who would win?

Burce of course, he has more HAAAIIIIIIIIIIAAAAAthingys :P He could avoid muhammads hits!

Muhammed Ali knows 1 style. He would never beat someone who has cross trained. Sure, he is fantastic at punches, but knows no other style of attack. Cross training will ALWAYS make a better fighter than a single style.

Edit: Plus, table tennis with nunchukus! FUCK YEAH!

Ali was a great Boxer, it's largely unknown whether he was a great 'fighter'. I personally don't even think Ali would have been able to defeat some of the better Bareknuckle Boxers of past generations such as Lenny McLean.

Bruce Lee would have destroyed [Ali], going on Ali's credentials as a boxer and the assumption Boxing would be his fighting technique.

Alot of Bruce Lee fighting sequences were pre-choreographed.

If Muhamad would of a nice hit, Lee would be knocked out. Other wise Lee > Win

Of course.... Choreographed fighting and a fight sequence is exactly the same thing; a set list of moves carried out in order. Are you surprised they would be practiced before proper execution?

Not to descrit Ali, but i sincerly doubt that a boxing champion would defeat someone who mastered several martial arts and through that created his own.

And Bruce Lee isnt the movies.

Now this is the kind of mindless thread off topic should be filled with. Screw politics, wars, ecocystems and science, this is the true discussion I want to engage in when I'm among friends.

No sarcasm intended. I voted Lee, obviously.

Bruce Lee, how is this even a question?

    You are a moron...

I believe Ali took on a martial artist in his day a guy named Antonio Inoki who was basically involved in what was MMA at the time in Japan...the fight went to a draw because of stupid rules (things like Ino couldn't use submissions or strike Ali in the face/head((because of Ino wasn't wearing gloves)). But teh majority of the time Inoki was just trying to kick at Ali's legs. Bruce on the other hand was so fast they had to literally slow down the framerate of his films so you could see his movements and even in HD they still look blurry. Mebe if you put gloves on Lee it would slow him down a lil, but just being able to use his feet puts him over Ali...also you have to remember Ali was NOT a knock out artist he was about speed an finesse unfort. so was Lee.

Now put Lee vs say Mike Tyson and just mebe Mike might have a chance for a lucky knockout shot. But having pretty extensive martial arts training my self (military hand to hand/Gung Fu/Jeet Kun Do) its just like apples and oranges, boxing you look to throw light punches to lead to heavier ones/combos and mebe some counter punching. Martial arts you are looking to hinder you opponents attack and then attack if needed to subdue your opponent there are just too many maneuvers you learn that a boxer wouldn't...not a fair fight unless the boxer outskilled and out strengthed the opponent by a decent amount would you mebe have a fair fight.

and to everyone saying Lee's moves are choreographed? I ask how is all of martial arts/boxing NOT choreographed? All each are is learning a set list or combination of maneuvers or strikes and doing them over and over again till you can execute them flawlessly and at will...anyone who has actually done either of those sports/arts can easily draw the lines between them and dancing...and dancing is ALL choreography...

Smile Manny Pacquiao would own both at the same time? LOL

Bruce Lee was between a Featherweight* and a Lightweight** and Ali was a Heavyweight***. Lets say that in this fight Bruce Lee is a Lightweight. This still means that Ali has 50% more mass. There is a physics formula which states that Force equals Mass times Acceleration. If Bruce Lee wants to give out a punch with the same force as Ali, Lee has to be 50% faster than Ali.

These are some Bruce Lee facts (not like the fake Chuck Norris facts, but real facts):
    1) In a speed demonstration, Lee could snatch a dime off a person's open palm before they could close it, and leave a penny behind
    2) Lee could cause a 300-lb (136.08 kg) bag to fly towards and thump the ceiling with a sidekick.

I don't know if Lee was 50% faster than Ali, but Lee should at least be close to it. When we also consider the fact about Lee's sidekick, we can state that Bruce Lee could cause serious impact on Ali with his attacks (Muhammad Ali had a fighting weight of ~214 lbs).

Lee was way faster than Ali, which is normal because a bigger person is normally slower than a smaller person (you see it in every fighting sport that fighters in the higher weight brackets are not as fast than the fighters in the lower weight brackets). This means that Lee can probably keep his distance to Ali very well to avoid punches from Ali, and Lee can probably dodge when Ali is close.

With this all being said we can safely say that Bruce Lee would kick Ali's ass in the ring. However, Ali is a smart fighter. Ali can keep Lee at range with his long arms and if he is able to push Lee into the ropes he can land some good punches on Lee. This could very well knock Lee out, as punches from a Heavyweight are way way harder than those of a Lightweight. Lee was probably not trained to take punches from a Heavyweight. BUT! Lee was a Jeet Kune Do master (he invented it), which was a mix based mostly on Wing Chung, Fencing and Boxing. This means that Lee knows the tricks of Boxing very well and he improved the footwork with Fencing techniques. This probably gives him such an advantage that he can outclass Ali anytime in footwork (thus not getting trapped in the ropes), which leaves Ali with no chance of winning!

One last thing, there is a fighter out there who is a mix of Bruce Lee and Muhammad Ali. His name is Manny Pacquiao. He is lightning fast and his punches are extremely hard. He can hit hard and fast with both hands (Ali was a one-handed boxer, as almost every boxer that has 1 supreme hand). He is an eight-division world champion, the first boxer in history to win ten world titles, the first to win in eight weight divisions, and the first to win the lineal championship in four different weight classes. He went from Flyweight**** to Light Middleweight*****, which is already quite and accomplishment on its own. Every time he went up a weight division, the specialists/annalists said that he could not handle the power in that weight division. But he could.

    * Featherweight: Not over 126 lbs. (57.15 Kgs.)
** Lightweight: Not over 135 lbs. (61.24 Kgs.)
    *** Heavyweight: Over 200 lbs. (90.71 Kgs.)

**** Featherweight: Not over 126 lbs. (57.15 Kgs.)
***** Light Light Middleweight: Not over 154 lbs. (69.85 Kgs.)

tl;dr Ali has a chance with his weight, but Lee wins based on speed and outclassing Ali in skills. However Manny Pacquiao is the perfect mixed of Lee and Ali and he lives now. The greatest boxer of all times. Due to boxing not being so popular anymore (especially the lower weight divisions) almost no one, expect for real boxing fans, know about the Pacman =)

Fighting isn't a 100% win rate for one of the contestants.

They both would have won on different occasions, personally given that both are conditioned to fuck I would have to say Bruce Lee, whilst his guard and style is slightly weaker in terms of defense and absorbing the blows, a well staged low kick to the front knee of Ali would render him useless - all this whilst being out of range from a jab (or under the range of a jab I should say).

The ground work employed by a boxer is also terrible, had a grapple ensued Ali would have been floored and disabled in seconds.

The reason I wont say Bruce wins 100% of the time, is because Ali was still fast and with strong punches via his weight and tunneled training, the focus and concentration required to attack and defend is unparalleled in other sports, in the event Ali can land a decent blow - that's pretty much it. I don't care how hard you think you are, a well positioned punch to the chin will knock you out or disable you long enough for a follow up.

It would not be an interesting fight, it would be a fight over in seconds. I'd rather focus on what each of them has done for their respective sports and cultures - more than any other fucker.
