I've watched it through and its very much a lot of perspective shots. Not room bending perspective, but distance perspectives. Like this;



This is actually 2 tables, you can see this when Gandalf sits down he knocks the table a bit, but only part of the table wabbles. The lid he puts down later doesn't go on a pot, it goes onto a stand to make the pot look smaller than it is (like hobbit size).

You don't see stuff like this when you watch it through at normal pace. But take a look at that scene again and you will be amazed at how many tricks are going on there. They aren't even looking eye to eye at some points of the shot.

I did say they didnt do "it a lot" they did use it for the bag end shots but the rest where simply done with doubles.

Actualy they didnt do that a lot in Lotr they mainly used short people with face mask and used short stepups to make him seem bigger (Its all in the Lotr Extra edition movie from behind the scenes)

You're both right, they used perspective tricks, midgets, children, and CGI depending on the shot.
