10 republicans is history making.
when Johnson was impeached 0 democrats voted yay
When Clinton was impeached 5 democrats voted yay
First Trump impeachment 0 republicans voted yay
Today 10 republicans voted yay.
every single impeachment vote has been party line votes. This is technically, the most bi-partisan impeachment ever. I don't give any credit to any of the 10, with maybe the exception of that one freshman kinda sorta but not even really, because they've been enablers for all this time, none have taken responsibility for that, and until they do take responsibility, they are just as big of cowards as their colleagues who voted no.
The SC has final say in interpreting the constitution. And that includes the question if Congress has to power of impeachment over a former President.
They have power of the current president, no question there, but the subject of ex-Presidents is not mentioned in the constitution.
After his term ends Trump will no longer be President. The President, Vice President and all Civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death
It can go to the SCOTUS all they want. Conviction and removal are two different aspects. Doesn't matter if he is still president or not, he can still be convicted of a political crime.
And BTW, he was impeached. 2 times. The Senate doesn't impeach they convict. Once again, completely different.
In case anyone missed it, the White House just released a video speech starring the Orange Man himself.

I'm not saying they should have. I'm just saying that the Supreme Court would still need to work with established precedent. I find it hard to expect they'll be doing him any favors unless whatever case he brings is something truly far fetched enough to not be covered under some sort of precedent.

In a further blow to Trump, as some here predicted, Bill de Blasio has announced NYC will be cutting all contracts with the Trump Organisation.
@cubby will this have any effects on the civil cases that are being prepared by the attorney general of NY state against the Trump Organization?
