Old Thread:(http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/...en-appearance)
We found it! Still some stuff which is to determine, but we have the entire thing done. Congrats to Ixzo completing the full questline - SPOILER images here http://imgur.com/a/MeheY and here http://imgur.com/a/hITPZ
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Latest (03/10/2016):
Ixzo managed to do the entire trip. Here's the recap of what's known and what's still on debate, but you will have all the needed ifnromations to do the entire thing by yourself.
Everything else not in this quote is to be considered as obsolete/wrong leads.
- AK5 is the trigger for the left binding to drop from Dargrul in NL. Can drop at any difficulty and it's not a 100% chance.
- AK6 is the trigger for the right binding from Ash'Golm. Again difficulty doesn't matter.
- reputations are NOT needed. Confirmed multiple times for right binding and we have proof HERE(pic) and HERE(reps) for left binding.
- you need either one of the bindings to start the quest, doesn't matter which one you get first.
- Thrymjarys will give you the quest through a new dialogue option when you have one binding - remeber to spec Outlaw or the dialogue option won't appear. Ixzo himself just stood there a while, you can try to spam login/logoff and see if the trigger is forced.
- Enjoy your quest chain and Thunderfury appearance! Thanks everyone for the support and help in the search.
NB: some people are experiencing bugs with the quest/dialogue with Thrymjarys - either choosing the "wrong option" or it disappearing randomly and having them stuck on that point. First make sure you're specced Outlaw but a fix for that is to simply queue/play one arena skirmish and once you're out the dialogue will appear again letting you complete the steps.
I’ll start this by stating that I’ve asked if I can start this thread with Coldkil, in an attempt to help the community and updating the front post regularly with any relevant information to help prevent re-covering old ground. I realise this opens us up to more trolls but the old thread is getting too jumbled.
The hunt so far has been pretty extensive, with lots of suggestions, some good leads but not a lot of positive results so please bare with me as I try to compile all the information and add anything new as it will be a long ongoing process.
01. Facts
- The item needed to unlock the hidden appearance is Emanation of the Winds
http://www.wowhead.com/item=139536/e...winds#comments- Currently two players are confirmed to have the appearance, one of which is Cisky on the Archimonde server:
http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/characte...e/Cisky/simple
To add some clarity to this. Cisky received the appearance via a bug whilst checking his appearance tab as did the other Rogue. Cisky has no information relating to obtaining it, if you speak to him I'm sure he will say the same, however I would prefer if you leave him alone. I can only assume the other Rogue no longer has the appearance equipped as to relieve him from players spamming him, as such I will not name him.
- The weapon is known to sheath on the back (https://embed.gyazo.com/e1432ee3d609...b853b858c6.jpg)
- A blue post has neither confirmed or denied that the appearance is currently in-game, so I think we should keep looking (See below).

- Unable to kill Thunderaan completely, Ragnaros split the essence of Thunderaan into two bindings giving one piece each to his lieutenants, Barron Geddon & Garr.
- Players had a chance to receive these as two separate drops from their respective NPC’s, eventually leading to the creation of the legendary item: Thunderfury, Blessed Blade Of The Windseeker.
Lore (Cataclysm)
- Deathwing was in allegiance with Ragnaros and Al’akir, the latter being Thunderaan’s father.
- It is believed after the events of Firelands, both Ragnaros & Al’akir are now deceased.
- Deathwing is Wrathion’s father.
Lore (Legion)
- The shaman campaign in Legion involves the resurrection of Thunderaan to aid the Earthern Ring. Players are asked to seek out Thunderfury from a cave in Azsuna. A dwarf is seen dead on the ground, with the now broken blade beside him. Shamans restore the weapon via several quests and visits to Vortex Pinacle, ultimately leading to the resurrection of Thunderaan and the restoration of Skywall.
- Thunderaan appears inside the Vortex Pinacle. Currently no Rogue is able to see him, however it is known that we will speak to him towards the end of the appearance acquisition.
- Ash'golm was one of Ragnaros' lieutenants who burned a violent scar across the forests of Kalimdor before the Wardens finally managed to bind him. Unable to fully destroy Ash'golm, the Wardens locked him in a prison of ice. Ash’Golm is currently a dungeon boss inside the Vault Of Wardens.
03. In-Game Data
Information from the game files relating to the hidden appearance including dialogue and quest items.
Items
Left Binding
Right Binding
Emanation of the Winds
Dialogue - Unknown Source
119150:
You possess a powerful binding from the Firelord's kin. These are no toys, $r. Bindings such as these threaten even the great elemental lords. They are unspeakably dangerous to possess.
Do you seek to imprison the Windlord with these bindings? Or do you have some other intent?119151:
I do not fear the Windlord. As long as I have this binding, he should fear me.119157:
I care little of your Bindings.
Thunderaan has returned through the efforts of the Earthen Ring. The new Windlord has risen, and it is he you should speak to about these wretched creations.
But even then, just one Binding is of little use even to the Windlord.119158:
Bold, $r. The elemental lords are not known for their generosity.
Still, should you recover both bindings, and ore powerful enough to turn them into something of use, then I will arrange your audience with Thunderaan the Windlord.
Use the time between then and now to consider the wisdom of this meeting. I shall understand if you do not return.119159:
What would the Windlord require to arrange an audience?119161:
I have no desire to imprison the Windlord. I wish to come to an arrangement with him.119162:
Curious.
Thunderaan has returned through the efforts of the Earthen Ring. The new Windlord has risen, and it is he you should speak to about these wretched creations.
But even then, just one Binding is of little use even to the lord of Skywall.
Dialogue - Thunderaan
119397:
Mortal $r. You presume much to summon me.
119398:
Ragnaros the Firelord once imprisoned me within bindings such as those you hold now.
119399:
And greedy mortals not unlike you freed me only to strike and steal my weapon, and my power.
119400:
But now that the Earthen Ring has seen to my return, I am inclined to show patience. Your errand may not be a foolish one after all.
119401:
Give me the bindings that I might turn them against the Firelord and his minions, and I will reward you in kind.
119402:
And so it is done, $r. Do not call upon me again.A few of the 119397-119404 have a note of "PlayerConditionID = 42188" or"PlayerConditionID = 42187" - Judging by the dialogue this is a check against whether said player has Vanilla Thunderfury.119403:
You possessed bindings such as those once before. An eternal prison from which you freed me only to jealously seek my power.
119404:
I should strike you down for what you did to me. For what you stole from me.
04. Theories, tests & speculation
If I can ask if you have a theory and expect it to be taken seriously to put the effort in to testing it yourself and reporting your findings. The status of these is not set in stone, however outlandish theories and trolls will be ignored. Good quality screen shots and other hard evidence are great.
Dungeons & Raids
- As a possible drop from a Dungeon Boss, Raid Boss, World Boss or Treasure chest.
- A Rogue from China had the Left Binding drop for him in Mythic Neltharions Lair (http://imgur.com/HIseaWw)
At this point it is either not currently available or one of the lowest drop rates in the game. Most if not all dungeon chests have been checked and the screenshot from an unconfirmed source in China appears to be fake.
Artifact Knowledge
- Some players suspect the appearance is unobtainable until a certain artifact knowledge level.
Testing Involvement/Interaction of NPCs including use of bribe, pick-pocket & detection:
- Highlord Dimitrian (Silithus)
- Master Elemental Shaper Krixix (Black Wing Lair)
- Wrathion
- Ebyssian Ebonhorn
- Garr
- Barron Geddon
- Ash’Golm
- Firelands NPC
- Molten Front NPC
- Vortex Pinacle NPC
- Eye Of Azshara NPC
There are no new known interactions as of 7.0.3 - if you have any specific suggestions regarding NPC's please let us know your findings
Wrathion
- Players have suggested that some of the data-mined text dialogue sounds like Wrathion.
- Currently no one is able to locate Wrathion in-game, in old known locations or otherwise.
- Throughout MoP & WoD, Wrathion was preparing for a theoretical invasion but whilst trying to prevent it he indirectly caused it to happen.
- Did he create bindings to force the elemental lords to fight for Azeroth?
- He has a history with Rogues.
- He was previously added to Legion as part of a quest in Highmountain however this was removed in early beta.
Eye Of Azshara
- As EoA was added to the open world and is not exclusively a dungeon there have been some suggestions involving this location.
Vault Of Wardens & Ash’Golm
- One of the bosses in VoW is Ash’Golm a known associate of Ragnaros.
- Some of the datamined dialogue suggests we get a binding from “the firelord’s kin” so there may be a connection here.
- VoW is known to have hidden rooms.
Screenshots
A world quest around Neltharions Lair tasks players with gathering some unrefined elementium and killing two NPCs. Both target NPCs have the title of <Keeper of the Tablets>, and have several Ancient Neltharion Tablets laying around near them. For most people, they are unreadable due to being in Draconic, language of the dragons - however players who opened the gates of AQ in vanilla were able to learn and retain the ability to understand Draconic. This was re-introduced due to a bug during the launch of patch 3.0.2 - which is how the image source claims they had the ability to read it.
Some have stated that this tablet may refer to the creation of Deathwing's Armor plating
06. Change log05. False Theories
Almost all of these theories have been disproved or considered no longer relevant after the discovery of the first binding, even in consideration to finding the second binding.
Old Content
- It has been stated that the quest chain will not start by investigating old content first. As of the Ret Paladin hidden appearance acquisition discovery this is no longer considered true.
World Quests
- Neltharion's Lair - You are sent to recover an artifact from a hidden room, there is some dialogue exchanged with Spiritwalker Ebonhorn and a Molten Giant you can kill, but other than this it appears to be a red herring.
Shaman Campaign
- The cave with the dead adventurer found with the broken Thunderfury.
- The dead dwarf is a character called Wray, the same name/appearance as the player who go world first Thunderfury. Some game data suggests that he is also found elsewhere but this is not confirmed.
Currently the shaman campaign is not shown to have any cross-overs other than both dealing with Thunderaan.
Hidden Locations
- In general there are many hidden caves and secret spots around the Broken Isles but no concrete leads at the moment.
The Vault
- Some clues to the Subtlety hidden artifact appearance lie within the vault, such as the lever and one of the pictures. Investigate the other pictures and items lying around the vault for any leads and let us know your findings.
