Power Auras / Spell Procs in Cataclysm
The latest build introduced a VERY interesting feature to the game: a built-in PowerAuras. If you are unfamiliar with the mod, it is mostly used to watch and warn players when a spell proc is available and the game clearly reached the point where it's fairly hard (or just annoying) to play at high level without a mod like this.

Blizzard eventually agreed that watching your buff bar isn't really fun and a new icone appears on your character when situational spells such as Art of War are available, see the screenshot below.

Mages - Teleport/Portal Interface
Mages are getting an interface upgrade similar to Shaman's totems for their portals, you can now add a generic "Portal" and "Teleport" spell to your bar and pick a portal after clicking it.

Darnassus - The Howling Oak
A new sub-zone was added to Darnassus in the latest beta build - The Howling Oak, the area isn't populated yet but it looks like it will be the home of the worgens in Darnassus.

Reforging - Video and Screenshots
For some reasons I still get a lot of questions about reforging, this new feature is fairly simple: You talk to a NPC in capital cities to swap 40% of any of the secondary stats of an item (ratings / Spirit) for another secondary stat. TotalBiscuit released a video of Reforging in the current beta build, if you want to take a look at it.

But, this is all assuming things which we haven't release any information about.

I'd wait for more info... like... a release date. (Source)

Tol Barad Tunnel System
Those 3 micro dungeons will be closed off during the main battle. Anyone in them will be kicked out. They are there to support daily questing in the zone between battles. (Source)

Throne of the Tides portal on beta
The Throne of the Tides portal inside the instance was set to take you to Dalaran because for a while you couldn't get out of the cavern. In a future beta build, it will take you back to Vashj'ir. (Source)

24 Hour Maintenances
The 24 hour maintenances have all been related to large scale hardware upgrades. (Source)

Beta Feedback
This is a beta test, so generalized feedback about how and (vaguely) why healing is not fun -- when we haven't even reached the level cap in the test process -- doesn't give us actionable feedback.

There are a few things to consider here:

  • Healers don't play in beta quite like they do in Wrath of the Lich King. Yes, the system is designed to be less forgiving so that the heal you choose to cast, or how often you choose to heal your party or top off their health bars, should be a more meaningful decision.
  • Numbers are still being balanced, bugs are still being worked out with each new build, and we're still iterating upon individual spells and abilities.
  • The whole group could be approaching a dungeon like they do in Wrath, trying to pull as many packs of mobs as possible to charge through it. This isn't Wrath, nor are players or creatures balanced around Wrath numbers.
  • As an expansion of my first point, you might be making bad choices.

If you'd like to give us constructive feedback we can take with us to the drawing board, give us scenarios. Tell us what rotations you're using, the group make-up, whether you're using CC or AoE, a play-by-play of specific pulls or boss fights, etc. We want to know what the specific cases are where you are being as conservative as possible and still finding it to be a struggle, or even just too frustrating. We can look into that type of data. (Source)

New Holy Spell
The new Holy level 10 spell is pretty simple, but it also has a lot of play with Chakra. I am just pointing this out, because many players never noticed the talent that made the old Holy level 10 (Desperate Prayer) into a tool that could heal others. (Source)

Nice they finally did something with the mage portals, it was so easy to fix that (just like shaman totems).

They've also done something similar to nameplates being reactive to threat like my Tidy Plates: Threat Plates.

Their system isn't fully functional yet from what it seems.

I never used any other mod than Atlas loot! The built in stuff was always enough for me.
After running a boss 2 times i knew what he does when, i didn't need any other help than my own head.

And seeing the bads already complain about healing difficulty... damn... I just wish they made it twice as hard than it is now on beta.

And please put in more trash! I want trash like in BC! Where the boss fight itself was a reward for getting there!
    Sigh... one can dream.

The term "fun" just have to be the most ridicolous measurement of how to shape a game for "the greater good". I can not fucking believe what I am reading these days. Utterly shocked and disappointed the way stuff is being solved. Read this quote:

    Agree?

Cataclysm has too many unnecessary add-ons also, everytime you level, a flash made animation popups in the middle of the screen telling us that we reached level x. Why do we need that? Must everything be so obvious? It's just too basic. I hope the gameplay is back to vanilla mode, while these silly implementations aren't coherent about how they design the game itself.

There is this nice little addon i found and i'm using, called Portal Box. It puts an icon on your mini map, and everytime you click it a window opens with all your portals and teleports. Choose your destination and you're off.Very handy and very light...

But yes, it is a pleasant surprise nonetheless...

Bah just read the part about Hammer of the Righteous. Shame it's some AoE now. Good paladin tanks know exactly how HotR hits, I could easily control 5 targets without consecration, hit 3 with HotR, SR one and judge one.

Oh look, another "BLIZZARD IS FOCUSING ON CASUALS" arguement but cleverly disguised to make you think he has a point to make.

These features are to improve the Quality of Life for all players.

    Stop bitching.

Dot Timers as bars may not be a must have, but they greatly improve the quality of life for me. And so do ScT and Eavesdrop. Addons are mainly about taste and the way you want the Data to be shown on the screen. The Data itself isn't really changed.

Tbh, here. As of late Blizzard have implemented/or are implementing many functions that addons currently take care of. ( Quest tracker, New Unit Frames for raiding and now this.

This leads me to believe that whilst Blizzards intentions are not to phase out the addon system altogether, they are trying to make it so you dont rely on third party addons to enable you to best play the game.

In all honesty this is only a good thing for us the players, as whilst addons ( most of them )are not really a process hog, memory hog or whatever, it is much nicer to be able to play the game without having to download multiple diffrent things from diffrent sites ( which you can never TRULY be sure are safe )

I hope Blizzard keeps doing this... GS...Lets hope it goes soon. ( Which will never happen, as to many players its the Rick Astley of WoW - Never gonna give you up ( no? )

Hope so, they could do with updating their voice communication addon feature.

in the current beta there is a spell called summon demons which functions like the portal shown in the post.

    Say THAT again!

Bejeezus! The quality issues can be lived with, but I swear, if I must reboot WoW.exe AGAIN to get the audio working THIS TIME! :shakes fist:

Anywaaaaaaaaaaaaays, curious to see just how this blizzard aura will work - will it show the ABSENCE of a buff, the presence/absence of a DEBUFF? Will it work on yourself, your target and/or your focus? Will we have a timer function? A Stack function? a way to see when a timer/stack is refreshed? will it come in strawberry flav... Err...

    You get the picture

Hope that built-in PowerAura thing is customiseable to an extent... if that's the actual graphic of it, a big intrusive solid icon blocking your mid screen, then I'd just leave it off... D:

The Wow logo is what they use as a placeholder on spell icons. Im sure it will be different by time of release.

Ya know, I tried using an addon similar to that. I also tried an addon that did the same thing as blizzard is implementing (the one button to port them all thingy), and it actually took me longer to find the damn buttons in my action bars than it did to just type out /cast teleport: silvermoon (or wherever).
