Gamescom Dev Interview - Warlords of Draenor Final Boss, Legendary Items, Transmog Revamp
Our friends over at Vanion had the chance to talk to Tom Chilton during Gamescom and came away with some interesting details. The highlights of the interview are below, but be sure to watch the whole thing for additional context.

Final Boss
  • Grommash is the final boss of Warlords of Draenor.

Legendary Items
  • Warlords of Draenor will have a questline for a legendary ring that begins at level 99 and is less grindy than the Mists of Pandaria quests.
  • The legendary ring will have a visual effect so that players can show it off.
  • It is very likely that there will be legendary items other than the ring from the questline.

Future Content Patches
  • A transmogrification system revamp could be part of Patch 6.1 or 6.2, allowing you to build a collection of transmog items rather than storing them in your bank or Void Storage. It also may include tools to better manage multiple transmog sets.
  • Tanaan Jungle and possibly Farahlon will be in future content patches, not at launch.
  • Additional dungeons could be added in content patches. There are more dungeons within Draenor that could be added, as well as older dungeons through the Timewalker system.
  • There aren't any class quests planned for Warlords launch right now, but if one fits later in the expansion it could be added.
  • The length of time beyond Patch 6.1 that you are unable to fly in Draenor will be decided upon by the community as a whole. If players enjoy it then it could last longer. If players overwhelming want flight back by Patch 6.1, then they will most likely get it.

Warlords Patch Timing
  • The Warlords patch cycle will be similar to the Mists of Pandaria patch cycle, but some of it will depend on the timing of the next expansion.
    • "Some of it will depend on the time before the next expansion after Warlords. It is very possible that if we are successful and there is a shorter gap, then we won't necessarily want to have multiple raid tier content patches. Each raid content patch needs about four months to breathe. Any less than that and it feels like you really rushed through the content."
  • The content patch schedule isn't finalized yet, as a lot of it depends on what players want to see more of once they get through the launch content. Some of it will depend on the scheduling for the next expansion.

PvP
  • The team would like to add the new Nagrand arena as a new arena, but this isn't final yet. It depends on how work on the next expansion is progressing.
  • There are no plans to add a new battleground in Warlords of Draenor.

Garrisons
  • Garrisons ended up involving all of the different teams and will be a big feature, changing the gameplay of WoW more than any other feature has.
  • More Garrison features or levels are something that could be done in a future content patch.

Misc
  • The Adventure Guide won't make it in for the Warlords launch. It will be useful as more content is added after launch, so hopefully it will be ready for a future content patch.
  • The World of Warcraft team grew by around 80 people during Mists of Pandaria, which should allow them to produce content faster in the future. This did slow things down in the short term though, which contributed to the delay of Warlords of Draenor.
  • There aren't any scenarios for you to queue for at Level 100 in Warlords right now, but some could be added in future patches. Right now they are mostly used as a storytelling tool while leveling.
  • Warforged items can appear in dungeons now as a nice bonus.

They actually said Grom would be the end boss in the Q&A in Blizzcon, it seemed like a joke... Very dissapointing

I'm sorry for you, WoW players. Another Hellscream as a final boss. I find it lame, annoying and disgusting.

Next Xpack you're going into another timeline to deal with Golmash (Grom's father) because you can't have enough of orcs.

I'm a tad upset the last boss is Grom, considering this was like a second chance to redeem himself and he just threw it all away to get wrecked by the people who defeated Deathwing, The Lich King, Illidan, Ragnaros, Old Gods and many other things far stronger than an orc. I don't care if its Grom, he's no Deathwing/Lich King/Illidan.

yeah...the impression that Bliz give out is that they are just piss poor at project management.

Sounds like more is for the chop to "rush" (lol) the expansion out to keep to the date they said.

And oh look they are destroying one of the best lore characters ever, Grommash, who kill mamoroth to free his race from the hold of the legion....now they are pulling a Garrosh on us and making him the enemy (Garrosh was an exemplar of the horde in stonetalon etc, but got twisted up for no reason)....garrosh, jaina, grommash....anyone else bliz wants to piss all over?

I find it endlessly amusing that people bitch and moan that it will be Grom, yet another Orc, when they wanted a Burning Legion boss, yet another demon that corrupts X or Y. Same damn thing with a different model.

People wanted to fight the Lich King, they got it, now they moan endlessly that that was the end of WoW. Why for the love of peanut butter sandwiches would they toss Sargeras at you for no reason other than because people want to see him?

Grom makes excellent sense, because we are fighting the Iron Horde, and he is the leader of the Iron Horde.

You want to cry about Orcs twice? These are the Orcs in the closest approximation of the ones that originally came through the Dark Portal, most of you guys haven't ever encountered them before (well, tbh, even we WC1 players haven't encountered such realistic ones) so calm the fuck down and wait and see.

It is time travel as such, but it won't affect our current timeline on Azeroth. So it is and isnt I guess.

Anyway people, stop the hate. If you don't like it, its not your game. Move on to "YAY WILDSTAR WOW KILLER 800 VIEWS ON TWITCH". I will still play it, ill pay my £8.99. If you don't want to play...don't play. This game will never be catered to EVERYONE and will be designed around "an average" idea of what people want.

Look at flying for example. Looks like it is coming back. I for one (omg I pay my sub I need to have my demands met and im entitled to X Y Z) had no issue with flying being removed. If it comes back will I use it? Sure. If it stays removed will I adapt? Sure.

Just live with the changes...or dont play.

I am hearing alot of people that are upset about xpac? why not play and when you get bored unsub and no hard feelings? I played elderscrolls and it was awesome for 4 months, now content is weak so I unsubed no hard feelings. BTW CYRODIL rocks and too bad blizz didnt copy it, they just did an upgrade to it and its amazing...

anyways .... WOW has 6 million plus subscribers and at 15 a month, that alot of fking money, so when people say I cant believe BLIZZ cant make content faster or xpacs faster I understand because if BLIZZ cant do it with basically an unlimited amount of money ,.,.., who can? And we know they could if they took our money and reinvested it back into this game and it does seem obvious most of the money is diverted, because to wait 2 plus years and have no BG, no Scenarios, etc is kinda silly when we know that its not that hard to make a BG etc

Meh. In an alternate timeline, he's just an orc. Just like Gul'Dan without the power of the Burning Legion is, also, just an orc. Everything that made them who they were in our universe has been stripped away. They are, essentially, completely different characters.

Plot Twist: in the end of the expansion, Grom is no longer an orc, but a hybrid (cyborg) of orc and machine, made by Garrosh, his son.

I don't see why people are playing WoW when they don't want orcs to involve the storyline.
Warcraft 1 and 2 was all about orcs and humans. During Warcraft III, night elves and the forsaken got a bigger part in the gaming experience.
Play a different game if you're so against the fact that Garrosh was an end-game boss, and now Grommash might/will be.

It doesn't bother me at all, and I actually really like it.
I love all this orc stuff and I'm happy to see it appearing in WoW now.

And please don't start about Alliance/horde crap, saying the Alliance needs a big boss now.
If you're an Alliance (roleplaying) player, then be happy this is a way to fight horde. If you're a horde (roleplayer) then be happy that one of your races gets so much attention in the storyline.

just unsub when you bored, come back when new stuff comes out, no hard feelings, if you leave and 2 "seasons" go by it gives you something to grind toward .....

The current patch was released on 10 September 2013.This means almost one year passed with no new content, and they plan to keep this up in the next expansion. No wonder they are pushing content from the warlords of draenor launch to the future wod patches, they propably had nothing else planned and are trying to fill them up with content cut from the expansion.

Why are people complaining about the legendary ring? He specifically said there would be random legendaries too (I.E weapons). Not to mention the ring is from what I understand going to be obtainable over the course of the raid tiers, which means we won't see it for a long time until everything is unlocked.

I don't understand why everyone is so disappointed. Did you guys not play the original Warcrafts? Fighting Grom is one of the coolest things I can think of. I'm personally EXTREMELY excited for that raid. Sure, it's not as epic as fighting Sargeras or someone like that, but they're waiting until a later expansion to do that.

I haven't been as excited for an expansion since Wrath was announced, and it turned out to be my favorite. I'm not a Blizzard fanboy by any means, but good lord, they're not all scumbags just trying to get that 15$ (or more) out of you. For goodness' sake, they're a part of Activision now, OBVIOUSLY Activision is going to force them to add more microtransactions and money grabs, but the employees at Blizzard that have been there for years still care about the Warcraft universe. Calm your giblets.

Blizzard never said that it wasn't an orc! Metzen said it's not just an orc dude. Totally different meaning.

If you would rate games based on how much views they have on Twitch. Well League of Legends is the most viewed, and its the most retarded game out there that 99% of players are kids.
