I think his face shape is a little off.
His cheek bones are way too pronounced and his face looks like a series of triangles. Compare the outline with Jaina's and you can see that his face needs a little work done.
I would say the entire cinematic in general shows lack of polish, but with the age of the game; what more can we expect?
I think that is exactly what we see, a dated engine, polygon count, and animation system. We've seen a lot of other games with newer engines and updated graphics, physics, and animations.
This is where the disappointment in being only 25% through the new models comes into play. Unless they are designing them with the idea of not being outdated in 6 years (which at current rate, is when they'll all be done), it still won't be enough. It is a very positive thing to hear about physics and motion being applied to hair and fingers ... it gives hope to a great level of detail.
Because watching the cinematic again, I see a bunch of fuzzy, stiff npcs. None of them really look to natural, especially on alliance side. I can't believe how bad Jaina looked and they've touched up her model a couple times.
It doesn't affect the gameplay though, so not -that- big of a deal
It reminds me, what eye color Varian has? In some posters, like Wolfheart, he has green eyes. Here in trailer he has blue eyes.. I dont like these changes. Its like Malfurion blue hair from w3 and green hair with mustache in wow.
BAD WOLF
I spent most of it being baffled what are the odds of two guys with insanely rare light blue eyes meeting each other.
Varian looked kinda funny indeed, but it's pretty much the first time I liked him. His movement, speech and pose were over the top and cheesy, but strangely badass at the same time. He looked way better than Vol'Jin on close up.
Seriously, this is the time when you start thinking about completly meaningless things, like - do trollish tusks qualify as teeth? If so, which teeth do they replace? What makes them stretch that far and why don't Trolls just remove them, since they look insanely uncomfortable? I realise why the Trolls usually walk with bare chests - imagine putting a t-shirt on with those things. And Vol'Jin himself, while his size made Varian slow down a bit, looks like a mess with all those weird fetish features, colors and weirdly placed leg joints.
He's human they all look like crap and not just that he's also a dude. Meaning, he does it on purpose. Kinda like neckbearded men do it on purpose to look like crap.
He still looks greater than any Horde guy in the video both in terms of looks and personality.
His upper lip is terrible
the same happens with the actual human models right now, because it works fine with the bears (but is terrible without them)
The model for the pandaria questline oppening was much better, even if it had less texture quality to it.
Varian looked awesome.
And can't believe I'm saying this but....
Jaina looked hot. Grey or silver hair with the blonde bit, "bitch" attitude.
I'd so go there.
I am going to call you a liar sir, it was the makeup.
Varian looks awkward because he is a different model, this is the exact reason they are taking their time with the new models; Just because we want new ones does not mean we are going to like what we get. The player response to his cinematic model will likely lead to similar improvements as what we see with Garrosh, which was in-turn based on the feedback they got over Thralls model improvements.
BAD WOLF
Varians face is, at it,s core, still a crappy old terrible human models face. They upped the resolution for that, but it's still based on poop.
Hopefully humans are one of the first races for the model update.
Am I seriously the only one, not a rhetorical question, who likes making humans (both male and female) characters because they look good? Bit of blur from the low-rez aside, almost every other race looks more "cartoony" than them.
