I guess we're all stuck wondering what type of immortality you have, but it's not like it would be tattooed on your chest or in a user manual or something. Depending on the type of immortality, it could take you a long time before you noticed. If you still aged, could still get sick and injured and still needed daily sustenance, you'd probably be a couple hundred in before you realized you were in for the long haul.

Indestructable immortal would be pretty bleak but I guess make the most of it while you can. The rest of your eternity might be spent alone in eternal darkness.

There's a point where everything that can be done or is worth doing is done, and after that point you're dealing with a slow slide into crushing ennui. Anyone with an ultra long lifespan can already attest to this and the idea of the thread was immortality, not immortality and eternal 20 year old vigor. .

I actually wrote a story about a man who couldn't die and whose sole purpose was to find the secret to doing so. Really got into the whole 'every single person you ever meet will be gone' deal, and theorized and tried a bunch of ways to sever the immortal coil.

If that happened to me, I wouldn't really pay much attention to current events because on an infinite timeline what actually matters? Not much. What does matter is going to vary too much from person to person to pin down but for me it'd be all secret stuff, important things worth hiding and preserving.

Second, if it were the real deal (nothing kills you, ever), I'd just do what I always do - observe and absorb knowledge, only with the added benefit of not needing food or sleep anymore.

Honestly the only bad thing would be the inevitable dementia after a few millenia; but even that fades with time.

Another is the "real deal", where you don't need any energy intake to function, and even if you're vaporized you eventually re-assemble - think Dr. Manhattan without the conscious effort needed to piece yourself together. In fact, that might be a good way to get some rest every so often... hmm.

Btw, think about the word for a moment, immortality. Inability to die. So not really "no death by anything other than old age", that's still death.

Well in that case....why keep it a secret? Reveal it at the right time, and you just might land yourself as Supreme God Ruler of a small nation :P

Or you might be imprisoned by the government so they can study you as a lab rat while they keep you caged. Remember, you're immortal, not super-powerful or invincible. They can dissect you while you live, without the need to even anestethyze you as your tissues would repair assuming you can't die in any way. Or you'd die there on the table if the immortality was only regarding age.

Gratz you can't die, but you're not powerful and some organizations will then try to capture you to experiment on you to find the key to eternal life.
In other words you won't be treated like a human anymore but more like an object, an item and you'd be put through painful tests and etc.

I myself would definitely keep it a secret. The last thing you need is for crazy people to know there is a powerless immortal walking among them.
Now if we also had a set of powers with our immortality, then we'd be talking about something completely different.

Thats why I said "at the right time!" haha. It'd be easy to start a cult following that everyone writes off as the "crazies" and feds only keeping an eye out for violent activity. The cult would grow as your ability proves itself to the interested, and by the time authorities realize it might be time to do something it might be too late. You've just gotta supervillain orchestrate your reveal.

I think he was thinking immortality a-la The Highlander or Wolverine. Not invincible like superman, but will always recover.
