I have long since played an FPS game. I used to only play them exclusively ever since I began my big stint into PC gaming back in 1997, however around 2009 or so I just haven't cared much at all for the genre. Instead I prefer third person shooters for action shooty shooty combat.
That being said, Overwatch piqued my interest and knowing Blizzard's game polish, I went ahead and preordered with some friends. Didn't get into any of the previous testing weekend or anything so I was able to finally sink my teeth in a bit over the past day or so. It's fun! I found myself genuinely enjoying playing an FPS again. I was happy to see the spray feature as well, hearkening back to my extensive history with Half-Life and its plethora of mods.
Despite my first day and a half of playing Overwatch and enjoying it, I must say it's not lived up to the hype. It feels like a better/modern TF2. There's nothing super new going on but maybe that's not necessarily a bad thing. So far my only gripe is the lack of variety in game modes. Defend this, push with that, hold an area but on different environments. Also some of the maps have some really gnarly choke points and sometimes damage indicators are almost non-existant (I find myself feeling like I get one shot when in reality I've taken several 'silent' hits). So for me, this will be a strictly super casual game or else I see myself burning out rather quickly. Outside of that I gotta say I love the different characters, they all feel fun in their own way both in play style and in aesthetics
TL;DR -- Not worthy of all the hype, but still a fun little FPS for romping around in.
