imagine if your entire enemy team takes bastion and sits in front of the flag.
it will either take hours, or you wont be able to win at all.
A mini ability that negates burst will solve this. Just like a Reinhard/Mercy/Winston would.

Quite a nice idea to be honest. CTF would be possible if they work around the skills of the carrier.

ha ha, yea that mode is pretty fun...CHASE THE BLINKING SOLDIER!!!!

Always hated how pub matches would be filled with guys who completely ignored the bomb though. It was like TDM with the occasional hunting of the bomb carrier. lol

I'd be cool with something like that...Chasing Tracer, Pharah, or Widowmaker lol, that would take some strategy :P

    Update

Capture The Flag seems like a terrible idea for a game like this. I just don't believe that someone could come up with the perfect solution that would make it a popular mode. I'm sure between the guys at Blizzard/Activision, that they already have a few game modes set to go, and/or are working on others as we speak. I'll bet money that CTF will NOT be one of them though. Which is a bummer, but it's just not for this game.

It'd be no problem to make CTF work. I'm a bit surprised, in fact, that it wasn't a game mode already. They could also take, for example, the "hold the balls" -mode from WoW (or from wherever WoW took it.) Balls, flags, whatever. Have like 4 of them on the map, the longer you hold them, the more you gain points.

I think a purely 6v6 format is too small for a capture the flag game. They should really increase the normal player limit if they were going to go for it.

I'd love to hear your reasoning on how it'd work with no problems.....................the floor is yours

Umm, not true. TF2 Scout is just as good as Tracer if not better and they do it fine. They just have to make every speedy class catchable/killable via clever map designing.

This would work quite well, IMO.

I didn't say it would work with no problems. I said it would be no problem to make it work.

Ah yes, the "TF2 does it, so why can't Overwatch?" posts.......so you want them to dedicate thousands of hours into building a few maps that will specifically benefit one game mode???? I'd say that NO, a "Scout" is not as fast as Tracer can be with her abilities intact. I get your comparison, speedy tf2 player, speedy overwatch player. But I'd bet that Tracer wins hands down.

Maybe they'll find a way to make this game mode work, but it really doesn't sound like something that will be a well running game mode.......Look at any game that has CTF.........Battlefield, CoD, Team Fortress, WoW, and numerous others I'm sure. In every single one of those, you always see half the team camping their flag and maybe 2 guys running for the flag. It's just a campfest anyways, specifically in pub matches. There's zero coordination and either one team murders the other 4 to 0, or you have that rare match where it was actually an overtime win of 3 - 4 or something like that.

I much rather have other game modes to play that force your teams to get out of their base and attack some objectives.

    That's like, your opinion, man.

CTF is by far my favorite FPS map to do. I'm sure they can balance heroes and maps to make it work. I compared it to TF2 because that's what it basically is. If you want to throw in "hurrr but dis game has le ults and TF2 dont" all I can say is BOTH sides will have ults... Ults can be used by both teams, the side that can make use of them better will have the edge on CTF.

    Listen here Lebowski!

I definitely agree that CTF is a great mode, and I do understand the similarities between the two titles. But my main thing is that NO, TF does NOT have ultimates. Yea they have different characters with different speeds, but it's just not the same (imo) since TF is more about guns & ammo rather than Overwatch being guns/ammo/abilities/ultimates.

There are definite similarities, but I myself just can't see how we could say "what works in one, could work in the other"

I don't think ults are enough to mess with it. If anything, CTF is MORE balanced with Ults because both sides are on even ground unlike Attack/Defense maps where Ults can give one side more advantage than the other. I found it a lot harder to attack than to defend in Overwatch mostly due to Ults.

In CTF a Tracer can flank in and steal flag, but guess what, the other team can play Tracer too and they can also play Tracer counters just like how in TF2 you can play Scout counters. Ults will definitely give certain heroes advantages, but that is the same for ANY map.

I believe it's definitely possible depending upon the map design.... and disabling the flag carrier to only having his/her very basic shooting/protection ability.

Yep. They can also make certain abilities cause you to drop flag to use. Like if Tracer uses her time rewind it causes her to drop flag at place she used it. Maps can also have limited places to wall climb or make wall climbing cause you to drop flag.

I would prefer if they didn't do any of that and just intelligently design each map so that every class can use all their abilities while carrying flag though. It's definitely possible.

I don't think any amount of map design, apart from just a giant open space (which would open a whole different can of sniping worms) would stop a Tracer from being unstoppable as a flag carrier.

Oh, I think there are. Defensive nest heroes like Torbjorn, Mei, Bastion and Junkrat could annihilate her just by looking at her. Just need to create choke points where she can't just zippity-doo-da away with the flag. I know people don't like TF2 comparisons, but look at the Scout. They run naturally much faster than Tracer (and have weapons that boost their speed), have double jump, and have drinks that can make them invincible for a short while. If you wrote down their abilities on paper, everyone would say they'd be OP. But They have limits that balance out (ie, can't shoot/pick up flag while invincible, need to ramp up their speed by shooting people, they have triple jump but at expense of less weapon damage, they can naturally cap 2X faster than any other class, but have lowest HP, etc).

Make it so Heroes can't use Ults while carrying flag. Make it so they can't climb walls while holding flags. Make the levels curvy or long enough so classes like Gengi or Tracer can't just zip by everyone with no problem. Make it so flag carriers receive 50% healing, etc.

My point is, there are tons of way to balance. Just have to look for them.

So the game would NOT work without problems, however it wouldn't be a problem to make work................................

Even if that's not the same thing in your eyes, it still sounds retarded in mine.

That's like saying "I can build a car without any problems......but it's likely to have problems once it's been built"

That is what I'm hearing from you lol --- and I don't mean any of this to be insulting or trolling or anything....I'm just debating how you view this situation vs how I view it.
