I expected a gradual dropoff over the next few weeks and even months, but nothing like this. Has anyone else had a similar experience in their friends list?
Maybe those people have lives. Unlike you since you spend your time stalking them.
You know, other hobbies, families, friends in the scary REAL WORLD, all reasons not to log EVERY DAMN DAY FOR A GAME.

There's no server browers, a match type option, a single player, pugs are stupid. Too many problems to hold people's attention for long.
lol can you imagine a Team Deathmatch on this game????? There's already tons of morons who never play the objective......now you want to just tell everyone to SPAWN AND GO KILL SOMEONE????? To me, that just sounds like a 10 minute match full of lonewolves and retards.

And? What is wrong with having more options for game modes? At least it would be less frustrating.

My point is (and this is my opinion) that a mode like Team Deathmatch would be like Skirmish is during searches, if not worse.....It's just 12 people running around trying to find an enemy....Roles will become pointless, matches could take forever if everyone sucks and can't rack up kills.

There will be more modes coming soon, Blizzard has already been working on the first update which is bringing back Ranked Played and "not confirmed" possibly a new mode or two, along with maybe even a new hero. And they're doing multiple "expansions" for F-R-E-E. Which is extremely rare in this day of gaming.

It sounds to me like you have personal problems with this game....the skill ceiling is not low at all...it isn't easy to be an extremely skilled player at one or more heroes. You can see a huge difference between a mediocre and "expert" player with every single hero.

I rarely ever die from ultimates, and neither do my teammates. Because if you pay attention, and you work together. There are several ultimates that you can counter or kill before they get you. You can hear numerous heroes audible cue that the ultimate is preparing and/or triggering and that gives you time to back up. Kill feeds show you when some heroes have their ults, so you can call out for your team to stay sharp.

This game in my opinion actually has a high skill ceiling, and it's not going to be loved by the casual masses. Nor is that what it was designed for. Blizzard is all about Competition and E-Sports, and so was Activision, who are part of the Blizzard family. So unfortunately, there will probably be a lot of frustrated players that desperately want Capture The Flag, and TDM, and nerfs n buffs and all this other stuff. But Blizzard will not focus on the occasional player, they're set to focus on Dominating the E-Sports and Competitive Playing.

That's just incorrect on so many levels........you chain another tank, and you typically won't kill them. Chain a Lucio, he can shockwave you backwards, chain McGree and he has a chance to stun you. There are numerous characters who can escape Roadhog chaining them.

    So your statement is FALSE

Lol. You might want to see how many people played beta, how hyped everyone was for it, the metascore it has and how popular it's been on Twitch since release. Trust me. You have nothing to worry about. And honestly? If it "died" tomorrow, who cares? As long as you're having fun. The game is unbelievably fun and has been since closed beta launched. I don't understand why people just mindlessly follow what's popular and/or an esport. I personally believe it's going to be a big time game for quite a while and I think Blizzard struck gold again.

Opinions are nice, but it would be objectively better to have more modes with a mode browser. There's really no arguing against more options.

Mode Browser, yea. I'd be cool with that. I do enjoy the "payload" maps more than just the Attack/Defend.

but more Modes are coming, that's been confirmed. The game just hit it's first WEEK. So have some patience. With that, I don't really understand what your complaint is on that side of it. You want content??? CONTENT IS COMING. Games don't just throw all the DLC at you on the first day.

If you're already burnt out with the 2 modes we have, than go play something else and jump back in after the first "expansion"

Never did I say any of that, but this game is going to have a low retention rate because of these reasons. There is no denying that.

The golden era of gaming is long gone. LONG GONE. But VR technology/gaming looks promising. Sadly thats 10 years aways until there is a solid ground breaking game. I think people nowadays just don't have time to invest in more than 1-3 games max.

My friends list was the opposite and everyone is on overwatch today

The reason my friend list fluctuates between people playing Overwatch on and off, is just simple, exams coming, and some finals due to this or the next week. Note that this applies to other games aswell.

I called this before the game even came out of beta and got shit for it. Said it before and I'll say it for the 10th time. The replay value sucks with the 3 game modes. This game NEEDS more map variety. 12 maps, but only 3 modes (attack/defense, escort, and KotH) = gets boring fast.

Reason why TF2 is still so popular is because they have player made maps and tons of customizable modes. If Overwatch doesn't follow suit, the game will be dead in a few months.

I say I have about another week in me before I move on to something else.

For comparison, my friends list right now has seven people in Overwatch, two people in WoW, and no one in Diablo, Heroes, or Hearthstone, despite the fact that I am pretty sure the latter of all of these is the most popular game of them all right now. (also 75% of my friends list consists of people I met in WoW who play WoW specifically and not necessarily other games)

One person's friends list is not representative of popularity, health, financial success, or lifespan of the game as a whole.

Also, do people playing on consoles for Overwatch use Battle.net accounts still? What about people playing mobile for Hearthstone? That might further skew things.

One's friend list is not a scientifically sound measurement of anything. If I only wow PVP then naturally all of my friends will most likely be pvpers and not moba players. Just because no one on my friends list plays hots doesn't mean hots is a fail, it just means the people in my friends list don't play hots, but everyone in the world isn't on my friends list and the universe doesn't revolve around my existence.

Look beyond yourself because your existence is not the boundary of all existence.

Anecdotal evidence is just that, and matters to no one but you.
