It always bemuses me that such an advanced nation is so slow to adopt things the rest of the world takes as standard. It's almost as if the U.S. takes pride in doing things awkwardly.

Your chip and pin cards still require swiping? That's stupid. The whole idea of chip and pin is you shouldn't need to do any swiping. These cards are extremely reliable in Europe. You put the card in the reader by pushing it in until it won't go any further. You get asked for your pin. You enter your pin. You press OK. You get told to remove your card. Done. Whole process takes 5-10 seconds. Trust Americans to take a technology nobody else in the world has a problem with and make it overly-complicated.
