Excellent move by Blizz, if they really want to push this as an e-sport, they need to make sure things are as above-board as possible

Agreed, but it seems there are number of excuses for some that justify Blizzard's incompetence in these matters. Spending over a month to even respond to/acknowledge a game breaking bug and exploitation of it has nothing to do with a game engine.

Even informing those who've been negatively affected/didn't abuse it how one plans to deal with it would be nice, but no such thing has been said. Which has lead to me and some others to unsubscribe due to poor service and management of the matter.

They could do the same thing with WoW in China, but can you imagine the pitchforks in front of the Irvine/Paris HQ's if they would handle such a ban in EU/US in releasing player names ?.

they wouldnt release player names as thats a breach of privacy laws in EU and US, just look at the real name fiasco on the real id a few years back they removed it

What would happen if you get perma banned by them? Do they return the $$ for the game or are you out $40-$60?

Guessing the customers could still get a chargeback from their banks if they paid via debit/credit card.

Account, Banning IPs is very dumb as IP is easily changed or faked as well as you could ban players who are innocent.

It's amazing how, even while comparing different games within the same company, the attitude towards Botting and Cheating is so different, depending on the business model!

Different game leads and different banning policies it seems like. They seem to prefer perma bans on OW as opposed to temp bans in WoW, the Overwatch team seems a bit more serious about the issue.

I'm guessing they can still get a chargeback at the bank since it's been less than a month, unless they already paid several months ago via pre-order. Banks typically side with their clients/buyers 99% of the time over the sellers. Same with Paypal.

This is the reason why I only "pre-order" a game literally at the last second. To give me time to get my money back if it's complete shite.

How does one "fake an ip" exactly? Oh wait, you're referring to vpns/proxies, right? Technically not the same thing but I'll give it to you just this once. That shit can be traced to its original host if blizzard wanted to spend money on the resources. Account bans are just as dumb since one could create a new one, just sayin...

FYI, innocent players can be banned by mistake with any system in place. All it takes is one false positive with any 3rd party program running and you're fucked.

WoW has become the redheaded stepchild for blizzard and is no longer their main source of income.

IP bans are fun when your ISP gives you a dynamic IP. Either they ban the exact IP, and you get a different IP thanks to it being dynamic and someone else might be banned for no reason, or they ban with a wildcard, thus banning pretty much every user from that ISP.

IP bans are something people who know nothing about IPs would use. Something we learned 20-25 years ago in IRC. Though, we were banning hostmasks but still.
