Would you save yourself or your pet?

The question of whether to ‘save your pet or a stranger’ has been asked on here many times and most people choose to save their pet every time.

Now take the following scenario. A depraved masked serial killer breaks into your home in the middle of the night, ties you up, and drugs you etc. etc. He gives you a choice: Either he brutally and mercilessly tortures you for hours then kills you, or he brutally and mercilessly tortures your cat/dog for hours then kills them. The decision is entirely yours.

Who do you save, yourself or your pet?

Don't get me wrong, I love my cat, but I love myself higher..
    Fact (because I say so): TBC > Cata > Legion > ShaLa > MoP > DF > BfA > WoD = WotLK

How dare you discriminate against animals. They have feelings too.

As if I were to take the serial killers word for it.

I would lunge at him and rip out his jugular with my teeth.

This is the only acceptable answer.

But if you save your pet, who takes care of it?

So most people are willing to sacrifice other people for their pets but not themselves.

    That's pretty funny.

I don't choose in that scenario, chances are he'd do both.

Going to stop you right there since my pets have always been dogs that will tear another hole in someone's ass and lived in the house with me.

As for the premise of your thread, I would attempt to save my pet. I wouldn't sacrifice myself or the pet.

I can live another 60 ish years... a dog cant. Math is math. Will I be sad over my animal? Of course. But MY life is far more important than a pets.

    Basically My Life>Family/Friends>Pets>Strangers

I am sure the serial killer will either organize a good home or take on the responsibility him/herself

Because they tend not to be based in reality. You can't say what you'd likely do in a situation that will never possibly happen.

Also reality doesn't give you just two choices.

How is it funny or even hard to understand?

Me > me > me > those around me > everyone else

It is a very simple logic really.

Myself. My pet matters more than some random stranger, but nothing matters more than myself. Sorry pet.

? Most people who said they would save their pet admitted it's only because of emotion that they would save the pet?

Why is the result here now a surprise? Is it really news to you that people will save what they care about first?

It's neither surprising, nor weird, nor shocking.
