Read most Brandon Sanderson books, GoT books and Robin Hobb ones.
I really liked the Dragonriders of Pern books when I read them, at least before her son started co-writing them.

Nope, but having just checked out the synopses of both Kingkiller Chronicle books they definitely look interesting.

I'd also suggest the Kingkiller Chronicle.

The Magicians series by Lev Grossman is also decent.

    Fantasy Novel suggestions @crimson :

Death Gate Cycle (I read this once a year. 7 book epic.)
Dresden Files (Like detective noir? Like wizards? Like wizard detective noir? This is it)
Discworld (Dry british wit and silliness meets fantasy)
American Gods (Gaiman at his best)

...and there's always the Wheel of Time if you really, and I mean really, like descriptions of trees.

Read the first 2 books of the Magicians series a few years ago, actually forgot about them, so might be time to reread both and get The Magician's Land.

Dresden files piqued my interest after pvt Hudson mentioned it earlier, but must be quite good if multiple people suggest it.

American gods looks quite nice aswell, definitely going to look into that series as well.

Out of all I suggested I would definitely go with American Gods. They are actually shooting the TV Movie thinger right now, and the cast is tops. I'm just a sucker for fantasy and detective stories so Dresden is easy for me to fan boy over. It also takes place in Chicago which is a great change of pace from the usual fantasy settings. It's actually what's led me to my idea for a novel/short stories which I've been working on the past year.

I've made it to Lord of Chaos on 5 separate occasions and I see that 400 page prologue and just go "fuck it I'm out I don't remember all these people."

No one recommended Witcher saga yet? Geeez, people. Polish fantasy best fantasy. Last book is only available as a fan translation for now, but it's easily one of the best dark fantasy I ever read - twice in middle school, twice again in high school, and twice again during and after college. Because a good book never gets old.

Also, a disclaimer to clarify things: it's not written based on the games. Games are a non-canon continuation to the books.

The Polish don't even have the best sausage, much less fantasy.
