I'm assuming because the movie kind of glorifies dictatorships and military conquest.
Spoilers: The story is all about a group of people plotting to kill the king of Qin, who wants to unite China via conquering it. However, they ultimately come to the conclusion that the land is better off being unified in such a way, and the protagonist allows himself to be executed to set an example to anyone else who would make an attempt on the king's life in the future.
This generally stands at odds with a lot of our Western values.
Huh.
Dont remember that, although there have been years seen I saw it.
I only remmebr the hero faking the deaths of his comrades (1 actually died however),pretending to have murdered them to gain the trust of the king but then murder him himself but regretted it.
For some reason I dont recall this important plot point, the conquest.
But I think I didnt see the whole t hing so that must be it.
Political types thought it was very propoganda-ish, and glorifying China. To film in the Forbidden City in China, the Chinese had to be involved in approving the film, and some people think Jet Li tailored the movie to promote Chinese Communist ideaologies, like unity, sacrifice for a greater good, how those things might come at the unwillingness of some of the people, etc.
I, personally, thought it was the most beautiful kung fu movie I've ever seen.
I always took the human numbers thing to be that humans were the dominant species in this particular galaxy of Star Wars, or at least the planets near the Core. The aliens are either smaller in numbers, or from other galaxies, or way out on the fringe, or something. I could be taking that wrong, of course. But, it's easy to forget that even though they travel through hyperspace and such, all of this is going on in one galaxy.
Not much, but..

The Casino Royale and Hannibal star talks about his upcoming roles in Doctor Strange and Star Wars: Rogue One
Lucas had said many times that the Empire is pretty much space Nazis. Even the Imperial weapons are actual Nazi weapons with a few parts added to make them look spacey.

You mean the first time. The plot of this new movie is about destroying the first death star.
What if it is Snoke who's in that bacta-tank in the trailer that the red guard were defending and the hooded one was kneeling in front of?
The trailer looks cool, and I think it's a breath of fresh air to have a Star Wars movie where it mainly focuses on the Rebel pilots, some of the unsung heroes of the Saga.
However, seeing that it's a prequel, I sort of have an issue with it, as I do with most prequels.
The thing is, I only like prequels, or at least I think that they have a purpose to be made in the first place, if they show the impact that the events have had in future installments of a series, as well as its new characters introduced there to either be mentioned or appear in said future installments.
Because of that, I'm hoping that at least the main character of Rogue One possibly appears in Star Wars episode VIII or IX or even both, of course, she would have to be an old woman this time.
Otherwise, I think that prequels are mainly made just to gain more money because the creators and producers know that fans will watch them either way.
"Top notch" is still one hell of an understatement. Ip Man 1 + 2 ruined the martial arts genre for me for a good while. I still haven't delighted in watching any movie of that genre since then. They were that good. Jackie Chan still works, because it's all about the comedy, but the rest of them? Donnie Yen can't be given enough credit for that performance. It puts him on one level with Bruce Lee.

Word around the campfire is some Darth Vader news coming this weekend.
EW already had a giant piece on Rogue One this past week confirming Vader in the movie.

I still think she is probably Rey's mother.
Looking at their other proposed spinoffs -Han Solo, Boba Fett, Obi-Wan etc.- it seems very strange that they would center this movie around an unknown when all the others are based on established major characters. I don't think they would bother unless she has some major role to play in the upcoming stories, and Rey's mother is the obvious choice.
I dunno. I have mixed feelings here.
One one hand. That teaser have me chills. The hype was very real. I decided I would go see this and I watched the teaser like 12 time and just listened. 10/10, would watch the teaser again.
One the other; I got "grrrl power" vibe on the actual trailer. I am fine with women characters. Furiosoa, blah blah, you know all of the movies I'm gonna cite. The thing is that I liked the character . PERIOD. Them being female was not a factor. This one makes me feel like they are gonna push the "I'm a girl and I can be a man" thing hard. But that may be ep7 after shocks.
On the third hand. It will be interesting to see things from "normal" people's perspective. I read "lost stars" and I fell in love. It was great to see things from that view and it is one of my favorite stories now.
On the foot( ran out of hands). We had the Death Star what? 3 times? 4? I legit don't even know. I'm done with giant white testicles blowing up worlds. I'm done. No more.
Well, you're in luck, the Death Star won't blow up in this movie. And it'll be the third time it shows up, outside of a brief cameo in Revenge of the Sith, iirc.
