Use the live chat I posted above talk to blizzard and they will reverse the ban (Within 30mins 99% of the time).

The point I am making is that there are already tools in place for players to alleviate such problems without the need of an automated system that's so borked it allows people to be silenced for stating things like "I like WoW".

Hopefully they will get their account suspended for 1-3 days, depending on how many repeat stuff they have on it.
Then move on to longer bans, then perma.

The system is good for what it is, if you disregard the fact that people CAN abuse it.
But if people get harsh punishments for abusing it, then most will likely NOT do it.

Cheating and botting were rife, well reported, and yet blizzard did approximately fucking nothing to curb it for the longest time. Auto-report systems are easily gamed and what could they possibly levy as a punishment? Nothing. They will do nothing when it gets abused.

Because there are a metric shitload of people who have played the game in times past who may be looking at all of this nonsense and decide to not bother resubbing? Whether you or other current players care about those folks is irrelevant; I'm very certain bean counters at Blizzard do, and for the overall health of the game, more people resubbing would be a good thing.

I care because I don't want poorly implemented ideas like this infecting other games.

You can be punished for extreme speech by your government/employer/friends etc, why should you be able to get away with it in Blizzard's property if they chose otherwise?

Zapping people who are being legit asshats in game is fine. It's the automated nature of this system, and the ease of which people can be silenced (despite not violating ToS or such) that is of concern.

I have been harassed on the forums with someone following me around and repoting everything I do as Spam. I was banned twice.


I submitted tickets essentially saying the same thing we are worried about with the silence penalty...WHY am I getting banned and with the perpetrators be caught and reprimanded? The answers was essentially "We dgaf, bye".

So No, the abusers will NOT be held accountable. Report at will.
