I was mainly talking about tourists. I agree with you that it's a lot harder to deal with the threat of thieves if you actually live in Brazil. That's what reinforces my first point of saying, "If you're a pussy, you won't last a second in Brazil". As someone who has been a victim of crime, I can tell you its the scariest thing in the world, especially when you are approached by three people who look like meth addicts alone in the tiny hours of the morning and having to wrestle your possessions from them after they tried to distract you with something else, lucky for me a nice man from a nearby corner store heard me and ran out to scare them off. But it was scary even though I didn't get anything taken the only thing I walked away with was a broken luggage bag.
