I wasn't sure what time the swim final coverage would be televised so I Googled it, it said 8PM eastern on NBC. Cool, that's 5PM Pacific. Tuned into NBC at 5 and saw the local news on, checked literally every other channel showing the Olympics (even the Olympic "megachannel" that has like an 8-way split-screen of every event) and no swim finals.
Found out on Twitter that Lilly King won around 7 P.M. At this time there was still local news on NBC. Finally at 8 P.M., Olympic swim coverage started on my NBC channel. And it wasn't until close to 10 P.M. Pacific that I was actually able to watch Lilly win. Three hours after it actually happened and after I already found out (inadvertently and accidentally) via social media.
Am I doing this wrong? Is there a live feed online that I'm supposed to be watching somewhere and/or a good reason why I wasn't able to watch it live on my own television? I'm reading the comments on NBC's social media and it looks like there are a lot of other people also complaining that the West Coast didn't have live coverage. I really want there to be a good reason for this because it just seems stupid to me.
