The U.S. media is completely ignoring Louisiana's current crisis

This entire thread devolved into proving me wrong/debating politics (and the occasional uninformed asshole) instead of the original (though not as clearly stated as it could have been) point to try to get word out to those who may be able to help.

If you're not just a keyboard warrior and are actually capable of helping those in dire need even now, please look up the situation in the Baton Rouge area in Louisiana. They need it. Or at the very least pass it on to someone who may be able to help.

This is not a flood zone, it is very much inland and this is what is called a "500 year flood" and is basically something that couldn't have been predicted and warned about in time to get the masses out of danger.

The people in these areas, myself included, aren't in constant danger of floods, the main threat to us is hurricanes, which we prepare for well in advance and are very used to dealing with.

Flooding is another story, why do you think Katrina was so bad? not the storm itself, but the flooding it caused when something unpredictable happened.

    There's floods every year.

The news has been covering it, everyone who follows the news knows about it.

No, the current crisis in Louisiana is the state of Leonard Fournette. Nothing else matters in the Bayou.

I have talked to many people out of state that follow the news and they and nobody they know knew anything about what's happening.

I don't have time to do a ton of research on it but a quick google search reveals articles such as this one:

    http://rare.us/story/is-the-mainstre...ged-louisiana/

Basically the only help these people are getting is from locals that had the luck to not get caught in the MASSIVE amount of flooding happening, THOUSANDS of lives have been completely destroyed and no one outside the state seems to know/care. This is happening less than an hour away from me, and my god am I proud to live in this state the amount of help that the locals have given each other is worthy of the news on its own, but if the media would have even reported a tiny bit on the issue I'm positive things would be going much better than they are. I will be heading over to help where I can myself, cursing the media the whole way there.

Sorry I know this isn't the most informative post but I am really upset that there's only so much I can do, while the ones that have the potential to make the biggest difference are seemingly ignoring us.

The media only reports what they think will garner them ratings or things that fit their agenda. I believe there to be at least 3 reasons why you hear nothing from the media.

    1) Louisiana isn't a swing state.
    2) The Governor is Democrat
    3) There is nothing yet that they can fabricate to blame Bush or the GOP for.

You can be assured that as soon as it become advantageous to them they'll report on it.

it is somewhat sad, you go to CNN.COM and MSNBC.com right now and the main stories are of course about Trump and then you see on the sides articles about the flooding. Media goes for ratings and that's the bottom line. They stopped actually reporting on noteworthy news long long ago.

I have seen a lot about it on TV. Then again, I mainly watch Fox News.

Having experienced a very bad flood many years ago when I lived in Indiana, which the waters reached waist deep inside my house, I can certainly understand the pain the people are experiencing there. The clean up afterwards was absolutely horrible.

I am leaving to go help as best as I can. Please, if people around you don't know about this disaster please help spread the news, maybe it will get these people the help they need. I know it's hard to put yourselves in their shoes, I'm sure it was the same for them a week ago. But anything helps.

One last thing: people say since we get hurricanes all the time this should be nothing, let me just add that we prepare as much in advance as we can for hurricanes, and are mostly ready to endure them, this caught everyone off guard and the result of that is what is happening now.

    It's not the same.

This is funny, but sadly it has some truth to it.

On public radio it was the first thing at the top of the hour and rmentioned over and over every 15 to 20 mins throughout the news cycle.

Well, that's what the internet is for: people reporting on things without having to go to the mainstream media.

I've seen it reported on, as well as the editorial criticizing Obama for not being there as well.

Presumably nobody gives a shit about Louisiana, so they don't bother covering it.

Like if something shit happened in Montenegro, everybody would be like "Meh, so what?", or more realistically "Where the fuck is that? Is that the place with the casinos?"

    Obama is golfing

    Hillary is at home

    Trump is in Louisiana

Really makes you think about who actually cares about Americans

Well I'm aware of it, there's not much I can do though. My company has put a hold on calling people in Louisiana though.
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.

    Just, be kind.

Because it would look poorly on Obama golfing with his progressive celebrity buddies instead of actually being a human being. When Bush did a fly over, the media attacked him relentlessly, however.

Thankfully Trump is spending his own money and going down there and be a leader. Hillary is sleeping or something as she likes to take the weekends off to rest due to her mysterious illnesses.

    Where is FEMA President Obama?

Obviously, Obama doesn't care about black people, right Kanye?

Louisiana is one giant flood plain.

And every year people act surprised.

What a fun world it would be if he actually had the spine to say it about Obama.

You don't see Trump eating marshmallows over the CA wildfires either.

Why? Because politicians in elections do what is most helpful for them. Hillary doesn't care about voters that probably go Republican either way and Trump doesn't care about votes that probably go Democratic too.

Or in common mmoc words: Rednecks gonna redneck and vote Trump and libtards gonna libtard and vote Ber...Hillary.
