Hence keep watching, Yoko drops off from the spotlight. She's still an important character, but you'll see.
Also DBZ literally boils down to who can beat the other person up more. That's uh...pretty much "masculinity" checks, Gurren Lagann just makes your willpower literally your fighting power.
Yeah, making fun of him
And worse as in "This is tragic", sure, but great story!
See, you didn't even scratch the surface of Gurren Lagann. Since two of those are very much a major plot element too, you just haven't seen it yet. You're basing too much of the story off of Kamina. Trust me, keep going.

Except I've read all of DBZ, and your "surface" of DBZ is subjective.
Even Iced will tell you you haven't reached the actual plot yet, and he apparently doesn't even like Gurren Lagann past that point.
You summed up the story as a "Coming of Age" story. You're not horribly off, except it's still not true. That's like saying DB is a coming of age story for Goku. Sure, he matures a bit during the story, but it's just a singular part.

Saiyans wanted to kill things and blow things up (For either shits and giggles or money)
Buu wanted to eat (and also kill things)
The Frieza we meet doesn't do a lot of Dominating, he just kills things
Piccolo isn't a bad guy in Z
Can't remember cell or Androids, they were just rather dull, unmemorable and forgettable imo.
And you didn't try to deny that the entire show is literally about Goku getting stronger so he can beat more shit up. That's the entire premise of the show.
Cell was pretty much just "I want to beat everyone up", which is his form of "perfection" since he was made from the DNA of the Z Fighters.
Basically all fighting in DBZ boils down as "For a power flex" in a way, or to exhibit displays of strength.
Gurren Lagann goes the opposite way with it, but SOMEONE won't get that far </3

You could literally say that Cell wanted to be a drag queen and I'd half believe you. I really remember nothing about him.
I haven't watched Gurren Lagann. It's been on my list for YEARS and I just never got around to it..
Also, what's everyones opinion on the Monogatari series? I started and got a couple episodes in before dropping it. It's fine but.. Nothing stands out in the first 5 or so episodes.
