    Worth enchanting 840 neck?

How much dps do you gain with neck enchant? is it worth enchanting this?

unless youre rich then no. the best enchant goes for upwards of 20k and youll probably be replacing the neck shortly.

Use a WoD enchant. It's better than nothing.

so? even if you farmed the mats yourself they still have a gold cost associated with them. you farming them and using them instead of selling them is the same thing as spending 20k on the enchant.

    it's about 5% dps for me. I spent 16k gold :/

lol? It is not going to cost him even close to 20k if he's an enchanter.

I dont think you understand. it doesnt matter if hes an enchanter. whether you farm the mats for the enchant or buy the mats for the enchant its the same cost.

I disagree here. If I spend my mats, that I've gathered from quests, heroics, mythics, on an enchant then it cost me literally nothing.
If I buy those mats then it cost me whatever the cost was.
Its a loss of profit but it's not a deficit so it costs nothing.

again, lol. you dont get it. this seems to be a hard thing for some people to grasp. those mats you farmed you could have sold. by you not selling them, and instead using them, not only are you effectively spending money on them, youre also spending your time. its literally exactly the same thing. it just means you dont value your time.

youre probably one of those people that spends 10 hours and 50 bucks on a DIY project for something that would have cost you a hundred bucks to go out and just buy and you think you saved so much money. time is money.

but even then, that argument still has more merit than "i farmed them so they cost nothing"

I enchanted my 840 neck with the expensive enchants because I gathered the mats while simply playing so it cost me nothing to do those enchants.
I did replace it a week later with an 855 + socket, so I'm salty on that but I enchanted this neck too... again with mats I gathered while simply playing the game.

you lost 30k gold when you equipped it. you really just dont understand the logic.

it is a cost, those mats have a value that you could sell them for, selling now = gain 15k, enchant = don't gain 15k, just because you haven't liquidised your assets doesn't mean it's not 15k sitting in your bags.

    But I'm not spending time...
The time I spent was to gather gear to empower my character... so the mats I gathered from disenchanting gear I don't use is a bonus.
I could choose to sell those mats or use them myself. Either way, I've spent nothing... including time to get them.

Now. If I spent my time exclusively running mythics/heroics to gather materials for enchanting then your point stands, but for the typical enchanter it doesn't.
Just because I don't sell something doesn't mean I lost money on it.

I truly don't grasp how you are defining this as spending money. I found something by chance and decided to use it instead... so I spent money on it?
I found a world boe epic while doing world quests. I decide to use it for an alt... did I SPEND 30k to use that chest? No, I simply decided to not spend it and make 30k.
Spending and not earning are entirely different, sure they come to the same total but they're different.

Edit to respond to your edit:
See, now you're attacking my character because I disagree with you. Come on now...
You're confusing spending time on a specific task with happening upon something. I never said I farmed those mats. I most definitely do NOT farm enchanting mats because my time in game spend farming items to shard is not work whatever they're selling for. I happen upon enchanting mats as I'm farming Arcane Power or resources or a specific piece of gear.
Finding something while playing does not equal farming something.

    But on topic:
I enchanted my 840 neck with the expensive enchants because I gathered the mats while simply playing so it cost me nothing to do those enchants.
I did replace it a week later with an 855 + socket, so I'm salty on that but I enchanted this neck too... again with mats I gathered while simply playing the game.
Maged you are talking about an accouting cost. Kheath812 you are talking about an economic cost. I'll put it this way. The entire labor market in the world is based on economic costs, so wether you accept what kheath812 is saying or not, you still paid for it. He is 100% right.

To answer your question, it is 3-4% of your damage. So yes it is highly worth it if you are a raider. Assuming you put this on your BIS 840 neck (very easy to get) it would be better than the same neck that is 880 BIS without the enchant.

I'm not sure if you're the one who's getting it. The thread is about using the enchant for improving his character, not economical gains. Since he's an enchanter, I'd say it's worth enchanting the 840 neck (depending on what the secondary stats on it are) because he'd be spending far less money than he would be if he were to just buy the enchant from the AH.

If we're playing this game, you actually mentioned both possibilities with the presumption that he'd be buying the actual scroll enchant in your first post.

Given the amount of world quests that offer gear which disenchant into Chaos Crystals (and Leylight Shards) as well as the seemingly often gear that drops from Mythic dungeons, he wouldn't be spending anything close to 20k for the neck enchant. And even if he were to solely buy the mats from the AH, he still wouldn't be spending 20k.

youre still just missing the point because youre hung up on the 20k. the number doesnt matter.
