For raid bosses yeah, i was planning to use Righteous Protector on progression / Sera on fights that are low tank dmg, but i just didn't expect mythic + to feel a lot harder on pally than BDK.

Obviously, you wont really (atleast best case scenario) be tanking 10+ mobs in mythic+ at the same time.. but its still a great bonus.
For Raid Boss fights with minimal to no adds, Righteous Protector or Seraphim will probably be better.
The DR on LD is 1⁻0.97^n where n is the number of mobs. There are 11 mobs on that screenshot, so you should be at 28.46%. It appears that three of them are still out of range, so you're at 21.63% (rounded down in the tool tip).

//edit: BTW, this has some interesting implications. I just did the math and for enough enemies the DR disappears. Basically, if we look at the TTL (time to live), it decreases the more mobs hit us. But it only does so until we tank a certain amount of mobs. At that point, the more mobs we tank, the longer we actually live. This is exactly what Blizzard tried to prevent when they gave a DR to the function.

Now, since there is a DR involved, our TTL decreases until we are tanking 34 mobs, when it's 0.082848 times our TTL. In other words, 34 identical mobs kill us 12.07029 times faster than one mob. After that, something interesting happens. The exponential function starts taking over and brings our TTL back up. This happens extremely slowly but if our imaginary paladin keeps pulling more and more mobs, his TTL will eventually become the same as before. At first, this happens at 169 mobs. Any mob after that actually makes us even stronger. Soon things get out of hand pretty quickly. At 197 mobs we will live twice as long, at 232 we already live 5 times longer and if we somehow managed to pull 343 mobs it would take then 100 times longer to kill us than if only one were attacking us.

Bottom line: If a prot paladin with last defender could somehow manage to gather over 300 mobs, he could then probably solo any raidboss whose mechanics don't prevent it. It would take a while, because we would still only be doing roughly 100% more damage and we could not use any AoE abilities, but with Judgment and SotR and a little self healing we would be just fine. That is unless Blizzard thought of this and implemented a hardcap. Still a funny thought experiment though. Without the DR we could simply pull 34 mobs and be immortal. The minimum survivability would be reached at 17 mobs (roughly 12% of TTL). Without DR, Last Defender would basically translate into: If you can survive 9 mobs of one type without lvl 100 talent, you can survive any number of that type with last defender. Thanks to the DR it's instead: if you can survive 13 mobs of one type without level 100 talent, you can survive any number of that type with LD. (Effects like stacking debuffs and stunlocks aside)

Well my highest is mythic 7 - on vault, i found the first few packs to be dangerous but rest were pretty piss easy and this is without adjusting any talents (using bonestorm and not even blood mirror), yet on my pally, i dinged it two days ago and it feels very hard, did a few mythic 2 today and most of them were okay, using a fist weaving monk as the healer but HoV absolutely decimated me. Haven't gone for any defensive traits though, my next golden trait will be bulwark of order which i'm assuming will help quite a bit.

    Hello,

I was wondering if any of you hardcore raiders will put up a quick and dirty guide once you get through most of it on Mythic.

Stuff like preferred talents on certain bosses. Examples like using Holy Shield on the first boss because it might have the potential to block Volatile Rot? What you can and can't bubble off and where etc.

What are the best trinkets that you can currently get for prot paladins? I got the Grotesque statuette from xavius normal last night and i think it looks like a good trinket overall (certainly better than the trinkets i had anyway) Which bosses should i bonus roll for?

Speaking of WA. Could anyone share theirs, or link to a source, with Prot specific WAs?

Only 3/7M right now, but I can tell you on the first 2 fights, Blessing of Spellwarding is an amazing talent.

It's use is obvious on Nythendra, when you get Volatile Rot and you run back to the corner, you rotate between BoSW, bubble, and other cds. BoSW and bubble both prevent you from gaining further stacks when running through puddles (which you surely will need to to get to the corner), so you can really control your stacks well with those abilities.

On Elerethe, BoSW ended up being huge for our strat, effectively negating a huge raid damage ability. On the second platform, in roc form, she does this big wind pushback that puts a stacking debuff on everyone in it. It is intended that the active tank and half the raid soaks this. We worked around it by using BoSW and Bubble. I tank it first, and turn her so she pushes me into a wall, and use bubble to negate all the damage. Then my co-tank takes the second one, and he does the same, as I BoSW him. It is important to note that I also took Final Stand, so that I'd retain threat while I'm bubbled. In hindsight, it might be possible to do it without Final Stand, if it works as a fixate, and threat is meaningless during the cast. Will find out next week.

Ursoc pushes your shit it. Use cds sparingly during the first part, because you'll need everything you've got during the final 30% burn when he frenzies. I made a really great weakaura that basically alerts you every time you need to taunt, so you can focus on the rest of the fight and staying alive. I'll add that to this post when I get home from work.

As far as trinets go, I've been using the Darkmoon trinket on every boss. It's really solid. I've been trying out different trinkets in the other slot. I don't really have another great trinket, but the Grotesque Statuette seems not too bad.

I used seraphim with 40-48% uptime on all fights so far except for ursoc , where I was about 210k dps with righteous protector. You are just gimping your damage so you can get 2% dr.
With my current armor (ilvl 865, 5484 armor) even the minimum proc is ~5.8% less damage taken, an average proc is ~11.2% less damage taken, and max proc is ~16.2% less damage taken. I'd hardly call that 'complete waste'. For losing a small amount of dps, to gain that much DR from a single gear slot is HUGE. And I can easily say that me not using a dps trinket has NOT had any negative impact on our progression. We haven't come close to failing any dps checks at all this tier. If we do, then maybe it will require a trinket swap, but until then, I'll enjoy taking a ton less damage.

It is intended that the active tank and half the raid soaks this. think my only complaint about prot pallys right now is our golden dragons are dog shit :/ like there would be no difference if we didn't take them Bulwark is ok for dungeons i guess. light is kind of a joke golden trait and Tyr's is meh outside dungeons.

i mean when you compare them to dk's and warriors it's kind of like eh.

Bulwark is pretty good. None of them are insanely standout, but not every class has standout gold traits. A lot of classes just take wonky paths avoiding gold traits just because they're not as good as some minor talents.

    Here's that weakaura for Ursoc.
You'll need to have your co-tank set to focus for it to work right. It's purposely annoying, but you'll never miss a taunt swap again

So what are peoples thoughts on the possibility of prot paladins block chance being bugged?

    https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comment...nce_is_bugged/

People that should have 25-30% block chance are reporting closer to 10% block rates.
