Blizzcon wasn't that good this year?

Anyone else feel that although it was nice to have a blizzcon this year, it wasn't that good and kinda felt like there wasn't that same vibe as there usually is during blizzcon.

I mean I noticed the lack of Metzen hype while there, but being in person I still had an amazing time (2nd blizzcon), and Weird Al was the best show I have ever seen. Also ragnaros was pretty OP in heroes. Since going the first time I have felt that blizzcon is really something you have to be there to experience to get the best enjoyment.

Chris Metzen made blizzcon, his disappearance really changed the vibe. no hyping the crowds, no voices. it felt bland because most of the people working for blizzard have zero skills to interact socially with a crowd.

Any BlizzCon where Blizzard doesn't unveil a new IP or WoW expansion is considered "weaker" than the other ones. BlizzCon used to not even occur for years where they didn't have much to discuss. But with video games becoming more mainstream, BlizzCon has become something of an annual expectancy. As a result, occasionally we end up with ones like this years', which, while not terrible, did not have a whole lot new or exciting to bring to the table.

Lack of Metzen so we had very non-charismatic speeches, no real big reveals because there were really only smaller additions to existing games, Legion is new and all they could really talk about was the next big content patch, and weird stuff like that Google AI thing.

Actually being there, playing the games wasn't too exciting because it's mostly the same, and especially with Sombra, everyone was there to try Sombra so all you really got were 6v6 Sombra matches which is just no good.

Wasn't the lack of Metzen, from a Virtual Ticket view, but for things that was suddenly off screen which it wouldn't normally be. As well as DirectTV failing it seemed. And sadly, this Middleditch guy? Whom was that, and why did they single him out for hosting?

well Chris Metzen was not there...there were no major announcement (Mean Streets of Gadgetzan is not a major announcement.) so I'd say yeah, it wasn't as good as the previous ones.

Ion still has the best social skills at Blizzard, just watch his hands, dont care what his speaking, the weaving he does with the hands is entertaining enough.

I've heard the exact opposite from attendees, but as someone watching from the outside there was certainly less to be excited about. Which is completely understandable, since they can't make huge announcements every year.

    He's an ex-lawyer so I'm sure it's intentional.

In terms of annoucement and game excitement about new things it was obviously underwhelming.

But the esport stages were A-MEI-ZING. Blizzard truely invest in esports and it shows. They set the bar really high this year. WoW arena, Overwatch, RNGstone, HotS, all were excellenty presented and a pleasure to watch.

I don't understand fully the major expectations people had for some sort of expansion release. None of the current titles has run long enough, within their normal timeframe, to recieve an expansion anyways.

Sadly, eSports pushed off some of the segments that normally would be on for the VT's. They should've handled that better. Not saying it was boring matches at the eSports, some was thrilling but they just felt more, pushed in.

    Diablo 3 says hi.

Honestly though I was glad I didn't pay for a virtual pass this year. I got everything I needed fromsome bullet points on MMO-Champ's main page. Couple HotS heroes, Sombra in Overwatch (the trailers were awesome ) and some broad-canvas info on WoW's future direction.

the blizzcons between announcements are always a bit less flashy. but tbh i kind of like them better. tbh my favorite part of blizzcon is the q&as where we get answers to random questions and the contests at the end of day 1.

i thought middleditch was amazing and im very disappointed in the blizzard community for treating him like shit to the point he never wants to come back.

Hello Diablo 3, when was it now you had Reaper of Souls? 2014? So, by Diablo timeframe, there hasn't been the greatest need on the expansion/next version with how active the patches are, as well as DLC's.

I am actually positively surprised, my expectations were much lower.

I personally was hoping for a class q&a or class discussion for wow regarding upcoming changes. This is kinda off topic but that host for the contest portion IMO was very bad and i am shocked that they'd pay someone like that when they did such a terrible job. Although I don't put all the blame on him it seemed like the crowd wasn't that good as well.

It was a non new game/expac year, so theres that, and no Metzen hype train, but I thought it was just as good as previous.
Odd though D3 into D1 retro, but no WC1-3 HD, i thought they were already working on those.

Ah, I didn't find him that great. Though, you are right about the attitude. Then again, Middleditch also struck out against people whom were giving him constructive criticism. So, I think they are on both terms there. Didn't help that Jay Mohr added a comment that made it worse.
