The irony that survival being extremely fragile despite quite literally the name "survival" is not lost on me, or the hunter community in general. With the arrival of Legion, ability pruning has drastically changed hunters for the worse with the removal of traps, utility, and more. Blizzard has admitted fault with their design choice and have sought to fix some of the issues; of which I want to talk about survival.
Pre-Legion, survival prided itself as the king of CC with its large arsenal of traps, concussive shot, frost arrows, and pet's abilities. The spec's ability to DPS in PvE was average, but it truly shined in PvP such as BGs and especially arenas. Survival was extremely durable, mobile, with major emphasis on DoT that plays to a style of line of sighting and darting in and out of cover to whittle enemies.
However, the problem we see now with the conversion of survival into melee is that survival is very delicate and damage is so very dependent on window timing that it becomes inconsistent.
Survival needs to bring back the old incarnation of Spirit Bond as a talent of to remedy the problem:
Rename it to ruggedness or scrounging since that's what survivalists do, no? It also rewards good play in keeping your pet safe and makes one considers whether or not sending the pet into the fray is a good idea or risk death.Spirit Bond (Passive)
While your pet is active, you and your pet will regenerate 2% of total health every 2 sec.
Pre-Legion, serpent sting was automatically given as a passive at level 68. It should make a debut here again as baseline to survival to stabilize the damage to make it consistent, even if the damage requires tuning to make it work.
Serpent Sting (Passive)
Passive
Targets hit by your Multi-Shot (Raptor Strike) and Arcane Shot (Carve) are also afflicted by Serpent Sting, dealing x Nature damage over 15 sec.
