Early in December I wondered what other awfulness 2016 had in store for a grande finale, and I knew it would be something we least expected. Carrie Fisher passing unexpectedly (and George Michael ftm, who was also supremely talented despite constantly being the target of so many jokes), definitely falls into that category. So incredibly sad. And yes everyone passes away sometime and famous people will die in 2017, but the cumulative crappiness of 2016 is really high on the curve. It's not just famous people passing away, but it's been a lot of really great people passing away far younger than they should have.

I haven't gone all out for a New Year's Eve in a while, but kicking 2016 in the *** is something worth having a drink or 7 for this NYE.

Considering how far along the movie is in production, it is quite possible that all the scenes involving her have already been shot. If not, she will probably be CGIed in R1 style.
