Extrapolating on Goriq's edit: If the show had just been a collection of miniature journeys to pure illusion for fun and joy, I probably wouldn't have liked it nearly as much as I did. What helped bring the show to a higher echelon was the last few episodes that included Mimi and her burning desire to be in her child's life, even if it meant brainwashing Cocona. I also think Papika became a lot more interesting when she was revealed to be Mimi's partner. The idea of this becoming a coming of age story is completely accurate, in my opinion.
