That's why I was confused/shocked as a kid, any time I saw some foreign (usually states side) program & some adult said something to their kid along the lines of "If you do that again, you'll get a smack on your fanny" & I'm sat there thinking "WTF!?!?"
Even now as an (way too old to do this) adult, if someone says something like "I'll pay for these, I've got some money in my fanny"

I'd just assumed it was an american thing, no idea it was down under too (giggles)
It's also a name, although rarely any more: "You can see how Fanny families moved over time by selecting different Census years. " makes it seem even weirder with or without context
