Funnily enough, America was only ever in the TPP because they saw a bunch of countries setting up a trade deal and decided they needed to muscle in on the action. And then they forced a bunch of bullshit in like copyright extensions, higher prices for medicine etc. Not sure if that corporations being able to sue governments not was an American addition or not.

Hopefully with America pulling out we can just renegotiate some of the shittier stuff in it and proceed, rather than cancelling it completely.

Well, this is a popular and actually helpfull thing to do. Bernie Sanders wanted it. Clinton pretended to want it. In case he really means this (how final is this? Does he have to get this through congress still?) and the resulting new tradedeals are also good, the summary of his presidency will now end in "but at least he got them out of TPP".
(I wish more people here would begrudgingly give him this one. Its a core liberal thing to do.)

You anti-globalization guys don't get it, the way to fight globalization is to embrace it. If people in China and Vietnam are making good wages American companies won't move their factories there. It costs a lot of money to ship from China to the US, so if companies are having to pay high wages in China, the math could work out to move the factory back to the US.

I don't think you get it. It costs next to nothing to ship from China to the US. Even small orders can be done with no shipping cost, the amount of time to get to the US takes longer, but there's a serious problem with products when average joe can buy something from China with no shipping cost, wait for it 3 weeks and save $40+. I'm in no way a Trump supporter, but our economy is in shambles and anyone who thinks the TPP was going to fix that and not make it worse is delusional.

Trump's first day was Saturday. Trump, because he thinks he's special, took the weekend off. The office of the president isn't a 9-5 weekday job. Conservative media made sure to remind us of that any time Obama did anything that didn't involve him working.
